Loved him on MASH, of course, but it was always a joy when he would pop up as a guest star on some dramatic or comedy program or play a role in a Woody Allen movie or some other feature film.

An all-around versatile presence who will be greatly missed.

Mr. Stiers was a finer actor than probably ever given credit for. Any actor who joins the cast of an already established hit show has a big shoe to fill and an even mightier mountain to climb. Very brave and something he did with great panache and success. The indelible Ivy League snob who somehow reeled us in on all his dignities, rather than repelling us all. A true balancing act and not at all an easy feat.

David Ogden Stiers will firmly stay in re-run heaven. R.I.P.

He will be missed. I recall years ago hearing that he was Disney's animated features "good luck charm" that they wanted involved in every movie, sort of like what John Ratzenberger is for Pixar.

I did not know that. I wonder what the parts were?

I'll always remember how irritating he was in his coming to Korea in "Fade Out, Fade In": "I do one thing at a time, I do it very well, and then I move on," which drove much of his conflict with the other characters.

Great character introduction and a great character, period.

RIP sir.
