This is another killer Chesky recording. The recording site, St. Peter Episcopal Church here in NY, is the perfect setting for this disc of early blues and roots music. The natural reverberation is stunning. The disc is multichannel, but none of the here and there panning. Just the pure live sound of a church. The cymbals are a revelation in themselves. But it is the standup bass is the head turner. You can hear the body vibrations in certain songs. I tell you all, don't let this one get away. Close your eyes and you are there.

Gary, I don't have this SACD, but the "Memphis" cut is on the Chesky SACD sampler An Introduction to SACD (stereo-only disc), which I do have. This track sounds great, as do all the others on the sampler. I have yet to hear a Chesky disc that did not offer first-rate sonics.
