so was this just a stunt and not really an illusion or magic trick.

and if this is just a stunt ...whats the big deal.

his other shows have been interesting. with him doing the levitating. but this one was sort of dull.

and was the announcer bryant gumbel's voice double. i thought he sounded exactly like bryant.

Amen, Tony.

This show answers the question:

How can we fill an hour with 30 seconds of someone jumping off a giant pedestal?

Blaine does some amazing stuff, but this special was kinda blah.

So how did Blaine reach through the glass to get that lady's watch for her.
you got me on that one. if they didnt show the guy rub the glass after the trick was over it would be easy to say a panel in the glass.

i'll say it anyway...panel in the glass.

I'm sure many of us would LOVE to be able to do the Beer trick.

The stunt was blah, and the segments with him walking around being an annyonace (lying on the street, riding the small bike in traffic) were just dumb. But the street tricks, as usual, were great.

I can't figure out the beer trick as the camera didn't move whatsoever. I mean sleight of hand with a watch is one thing, but he has you WATCH the beer can. Im STILL amazed at the watch thing. The main thing was, you really think he can move fast enough that we wouldn't see him reach through the glass initially to place her watch after he takes it? He is an amazing illusionist. I guess the build up the big jump trick was that he stood still for 36 hours. Oh well, I was most impressed with his street magic, and his voice that sounds like he JUST inhaled.

Well, I think that the "weird guy" who runs by just after the watch is removed works with Blaine and somehow gets the watch placed in the window.

But I still can't figure out how he puts his hand through the glass. It has to be a trick piece of glass, but I can't imagine how it would function.

Still, I think it is more fun to NOT know than to know. All those Fox magic specials that reveal everything often become quite a let-down once you realize that the tricks are pretty simple after all.

One question: Do you really believe that the people "on the street" are just regular people or are they actors? Based on those aforementioned Fox specials, a lot of the supposedly random people are, in fact, working with the magician. I really don't know the answer, but I wonder if WE aren't the ones being deceived.

Of course we are. But we WANT to be deceived! :)
I think some people are in cahoots with Blaine, it would be the easiest thing to do.
I didn't watch the whole special, but what I watched was rather lame. There were some bits recycled from past specials too.
What was the beer thing about?

Blaine took a can of beer that had been opened and all of the beer was either drunk or poured out, and just by holding the can in his hand in front of his audience of 2 people, he made the beer "whole" again, and let the guy pop the top off the beer can and had him drink the beer from it to confirm it was really beer. It was sort of cool.

Wife said while she enjoys the street magic stuff, the main stunt of the past couple of shows have been increasingly lame. I tend to agree. And David must have gone to the Steven Wright School of Talking Weird .

Thanks, Patrick.
Yeah, the main stunts, ice and the jumping, have been lame. Especially the jump, what was the big deal? There are stuntment doing that all the time. I guess the big thing was him standing there for 34+ hours. Yawn.
But I like his street stuff, and even though the way he talks and behaves can be annoying, it's sort of cool too. :)

The jump was lame but the one tricked I liked was the coffee cup trick with the bum. The cup had coffee in it and he slowly turned the coffee into a cup of coins.

Blaine biggest trick is having Josie Maran for his girlfriend for an extended period of time (I don't think they are an item anymore, though).

I was watching this show at the beginning until I saw a filler segment. I remembered how many fillers the last show contained so I just Tivo'd it.

The beer can trick is all camera work. The two people involved were in on the trick. For those of you who have a recording of the show, if you watch the beer can carefully, it drops below the cameras' view for a split second and returns as an unopened can.

Not sure how the hand thru the glass window trick works. The scene was so smooth I couldn't tell if any editing was being done. As far as how the watch got into the window, if the watch really belonged to the woman, David did not pass the watch to the guy passing by - he was too far away from David. So I suspect the woman was also in on the trick and the watch in the window was a duplicate.

It seemed like they edited the walk over to the jewelry store. This would allow sufficient time for the stranger to put the watch behind the window.
