    Press release issued today:

    Every Saturday at 11pm ET

    Beginning February 2 with Supervixens

TORONTO, Jan. 9 /CNW/ - Drive-In Classics is proud to present the North American television premiere of eight Russ Meyer films, part of Russ Meyer's Bosomania Collection, comprised of 17 classic sexploitation titles including cult favourites as The Immoral Mr. Teas, Faster Pussycat, Kill! Kill!, Vixens,Beneath the Valley of the Ultravixens, and Mondo Topless. A film from the

collection will air every Saturday night at 11pm ET, beginning with Supervixens on February 2.

Paul Gratton, VP and General Manager of Drive-In Classics explains that, "Russ Meyer is arguably the drive-in genre's one true auteur, the only filmmaker to produce, direct, write, shoot, edit and distribute his own

    features."

Russ Meyer played a significant role in advancing sexual freedom of expression. He emerged in the late 50s, at the start of the sexual revolution, making nudie films - a field which he mastered. His films were risqué and

titillating, while remaining within the boundaries of local censor boards. His 1959 movie The Immoral Mr. Teas has been credited for single-handedly paving the way for the entire nudie-flick genre.

Isme Bennie, Director of Programming and Acquisitions for Drive-In Classics adds, "Meyer's frenetic editing style and larger-than-life action-packed storylines suggest a blend of comic book sensitivity with music video

storytelling that should amaze viewers who have never been exposed to the work of one of the drive-in cinema's true originals."

Touted as the Hugh Hefner of film and the man the Wall Street Journal called "King Leer", Meyer is probably the best-known sexploitation filmmaker of his time and is the only director of his genre to garner acclaim from mainstream critics without abandoning his fans or creative vision.

Meyer has earned the critical recognition and respect of his cinematic peers. The Museum of Modern Art held "An Evening with Russ Meyer," the Yale University Law School Film Society ran a two-day festival of his work, and The

Canadian Film Institute in Ottawa held a film retrospective.

Russ is the one person I would seriously consider getting a "Collection of" DVD set. Unfortunately, when the subject came up here recently, I was informed that the chance of anything like that happening is pretty remote.
