After reading a number of reviews and listening to all the positive comments here on the forum, I would like to create the following home theater speaker package:

    Dahlquist QX10 (front)
    Dahlquist QX60C (center)
    Dahlquist QX6 (rear)

I'll worry about the sub later on (probably pick up an SVS). The only problem is I can't get the QX10s, only the QX9s and I can't get the QX6s, only the QX5s. So my new package becomes:

    Dahlquist QX9 (front)
    Dahlquist QX60C (center)
    Dahlquist QX5 (rear)

I have heard lots of great things about the QX6s and QX10s, but next to nothing about their cheaper siblings. How do they compare? One of the things that bothers me about the QX5s is that the woofer size doesn't match that of the other speakers. I guess I should also mention that I can get the above package for under $1000 CAN.

I know there a number of Dahlquist owners and fans here. Any help you guys could provide would be appreciated.

    Bart

    Hi Bart

I just picked up a Dahlquist surround system yesterday --
similar to their System 5 on their web site. My system
consists of two QX8's for front mains, a QX60C center, and
two QX6's for rear surrounds. Naturally, it's awesome!

For your situation, I wouldn't shy away from their smaller
bookshelf speakers (Q5's and even the QX4's), especially
since timbre-matching just isn't AS important for your rear
    surround speakers.

If you go with QX9's for your front main and the QX60C
center, the fronts will be perfectly timbre-matched. Aim
to place these 3 speakers at roughly the same height, and
the sound will be even better!

What's more, you should have plenty of "big" sound from
the QX5's as rears. These are still a nice sized bookshelf,
with the 3/4" tweeter and 5 1/2" driver, and pump out a
lot of room-filling sound for their size.

Oh, and in case you're wondering: my QX8's are awesome. The
QX9's are even better with a little more midrange (because
of the two drivers), and have just a little less bass than
    the QX8's.

I've got everything hooked up to a Marantz SR6300 receiver
and the sound for both music and movies is amazing. [IMG]

    Hope that helps!

By the way, make sure you post your opinion of the system
here when you get it... I think you'll love it!

I'd hold off on the Dahlquists as they JUST released an entirely new lineup of speakers. They now have blue colored drivers and all black colored woofers with a ribbed surround. The look incredible and have the best binding posts I've ever seen. Make sure you check them out first and see if you like the new ones better!

    Hey guys

I've seen and heard the new Dahlquist line (most of it),
and I agree that they are a FINE speaker. But, I didn't
notice much difference, if any, in the overall sound
quality between the old and new line up.

I was under the impression that the only significant
changes to this new line were the better binding posts,
blue drivers and the ribbed surrounds (???) Cam, If you
have any info on these new speakers that I'm missing,
    please share. [IMG]

Also, the new line is much more expensive than the previous
line, as all the dealers are clearing them out right now
for ridiculously low prices. Personally, I believe they're
probably the best buy out there right now for a high
    quality speaker.

Bart also mentioned that he can pick up this entire system
for under $1,000 Canadian, which is a fantastic price!! A
similar performing package made up of the new Dahlquist
line could easily cost double or triple that.

I say grab this incredible value with both hands before
    it's too late!

    All the best,
    Michael

Michael, I took your advice and picked up my surround package from Audioshop earlier this afternoon. My package consists of:

    Dahlquist QX9 (front)
    Dahlquist QX60C (center)
    Dahlquist QX5 (rear)
    Dahlquist QX125S (sub)

I can't tell you how pleased I am with these speakers, and all for the low purchase price of $1547.90 CAN after taxes, which I think is about half the MSRP. I was going to wait on the subwoofer, but I just couldn't pass up such a great deal.

I listened to the QX9s and QX5s in the showroom today and thought they sounded pretty good, but now that they have been properly set up in my living room, I think the sound is incredible. I brought a friend along to help me audition the speakers at the store (and at home) and he was equally impressed. While I admit to not having done a lot of auditioning with other brands, I can't imagine a finer-sounding set of home theater speakers for the price I paid.

After listening to the first few seconds of one of my CDs with only the QX9s, I immediately understood what people mean when they refer to "tight bass." The sound is so smooth and natural, without the slightest hint of boominess. I also find the mids and highs to be crystal clear, even while listening to older recordings and MP3s.

I initially set out to replace my entry-level 5.1 surround setup with a high-quality surround sound package and though I have succeeded in that goal, I think I am actually more excited about listening to my music collection on these speakers. I've heard things on CDs with the Dahlquists that I didn't even know was there. Simply amazing.

Thanks to everyone on the forum who recommended the Dahlquist line, Cam and Michael for their feedback in this thread, Marc at Audioshop (he really is as good as they say), and my friend for telling me about the speaker sale in the first place.

    Another happy Dahlquist owner,
    Bart

That's great, Bart! I'm just glad I was able to help.

And I agree, these speakers are equally as pleasing for
music as they are for home theater. I couldn't be more
impressed with these speakers, especially for the amazing
    price.

Hope you keep enjoying your new system as much as I do! [IMG]

    Hi Bart,
It was nice meeting you on Saturday and thanks very much for your kind comments and for your business!!!
They will get even better too once you get some hours on them. They use a cloth suspension on the aluminum dome tweeters so there's no edge or metalicness (if that's a word!) to the treble and that needs to get worked in.
    Regards,
    Marc
