The guy is very well known in the UK already. In the first series, the people he interviewed didn't know who he was, so it was pretty amusing. Once people knew that is was a set-up, however, IMHO the whole thing went off the boil.

Be interested to see how he goes down in the USA (there was an article in The (London) Times arguing that his series won't work). When Ali G started in the UK, there was quite a bit of fuss over whether folks should be laughing at a white middle class actor impersonating a street-wise black guy.

It's a terrible, stupid series. I watched 10 mins somewhere in the middle, very idiotic and not funny at all.
[IMG] Finally an HBO show that sucks. Well ArliSS did too.

Hehe, comparing this show to Arliss. Maybe you missed the premise.

I didn't really compare, they're just both comedy oriented HBO shows that sucked. :b

I thought it was pretty funny, and I am also of the mind the Arli$$ is spectacularly consistent at failing to deliever even the slightest amount of humor.

This episode, "War", was even better than the premiere episode. Borat's etiquette lesson was hilarious, I laughed throughout the whole thing. When he was high-fiving the old guys at the table I thought I would die of shame/laughter. [IMG]

His report from the UN was great too.

Wonderfully funny show. At least until it gets too old. [IMG]

I love his little "misspeaks" too, like calling the UN the "United Nations of Benetton".

Boyakasha! I really like his show, but for some reason I wish they'd have a laugh-track like they do for the UK version, because then I'd feel better at laughing at the strangest parts. Definitely hope HBO gives Ali G a long run in the states!

BTW, the first episode was ten times better than this one. "One brother, one honky, and... one Spanish."

I just watched my first episode, well, that's not really accurate, my first and LAST episode.

My God what an aweful, AWEFUL show that was! He's incoherant most of the time, and worst of all he's not funny in the slightest.

Sorry, I just don't get this guy at all. I give the show 1 season and it's gone, wait and see.

Ali G ... you either love him or hate him.

I love the guy. I rarely laugh out loud when I watching TV by myslef, but this guy leaves me in stitches.

I think you have to have a very peculiar, sarcastic, frat boy sense of humor to appreciate him, but he is great.

The bit with the German Fashion interviewer asking that annoying fashionista if we just shouldn't round up the unfashionable and "put them on a train-car and send them to a camp, bye bye!" (and she agrees!) was just too funny.

Borat is just plain painful to watch, but so hilarious.
