a recordable optical format makes so much sense, it's scary
What's scary is the amount of copy-protection that the HD-DVD-R/W is probably going to have, especially if HD broadcasts are flagged with the write-never tag. You may end end buying one of those "old-fashioned" D-VHS decks anyways.
Heck, they're even putting holes in strategic locations of the discs themselves. No hole, no play! Mind you, this is mainly for computer software, but it shows how hard studios are trying to protect their investment.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm sick of waiting for HD-DVD. We have DVD players and progressive scan players, there must be sets taht handle only 480p (digital TV sets outside of America). Do they forget a lot of us have HDTVs and many people will have them in the near future, why can't they roll out HD-DVDs quicker?

Sometimes, I want to buy D-VHS just to watch Fight Club in 1080i whenever I want.
