I see on Amazon.com that Custer of The West and The Last Valley will be released again on DVD on May 25. Anyone have more information on this? The last versions were released by Anchor Bay back in 1999. They were letterboxed but mono sound.

Based on pre-release info from MGM, neither film appears to be different from the Anchor Bay versions. MGM lists them as being "letterbox"--its term for non-anamorphic widescreen--and mono.

I'm more curious about MGM's re-release of Hell in the Pacific, also formerly from Anchor Bay. The old disc included the alternate (original) ending as a supplement. MGM's pre-release info offers no info about whether that ending will be included as an extra or--better yet, because the original is so much better, IMHO--if it has been reintegrated into the film.

Thus far, the majority of the MGM re-issues of Anchor Bay's ABC titles have not received new transfers.

Totally wasted opportunity to say the least.

Does anybody have these new releases yet and can confirm if they are stereo or mono?

I haven't played either yet, but the packages indicate mono.

CUSTER OF THE WEST is a terrible transfer and in mono! THE LAST VALLEY is in mono also. No care seems to have been given these two releases. Only good news is the HELL IN THE PACIFIC is in stereo although the box says mono. Both endings are there.
