I decided to purchase a new TV and components and have it set up but I do not know if it is optimal. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

HD Cable box/ DRV > HDMI > TV
HD Cable box/ DVR > optical cable > Receiver
Blu Ray > HDMI > TV

I am thinking I should be running the Blu Ray to the receiver so I am just all confused. This is my first attempt and I feel as if I am failing.

Thanks in advanvce

The Blu Ray player isn't connected to the receiver, so you aren't getting any kind of surround sound when you play your discs. At an absolute minimum you'd need a coax or optical digital audio cable going from the payer to the receiver in order to get Dolby Digital and DTS. To get the more advanced audio tracks on the BD discs, you'd need an HDMI connection to the receiver.

For specific advice on how to connect your components you'll need to post the make and model number of the TV, receiver, HD-DVR and Blu Ray player. That way people familiar with those components can weigh in, and others can look the manuals up on line and figure out what your connections are.

The question I have, is what connections do you have on your reciever? Depending on how new it is, you'd be better to connect BOTH the PVR and the Blu Ray to the reciever, and use it as an HDMI switcher. That is, HDMI in to the reciever from both components, then HDMI out to the TV.

If you don't have HDMI inputs for the reciever, your best bets are probably to connect the PVR and blu ray (audio only) to EITHER optical or coaxle audio connections in the reciever.

Do you ever watch TV without the receiver/speakers?

If not, then these are your connections:

DVR - HDMI - Receiver
Blu Ray - HDMI - Receiver
Receiver - HDMI - TV

If yes, then these are your connections:

DVR - HDMI - TV
DVR - Opitcal - Receiver
Blu Ray - HDMI - Receiver
Receiver - HDMI - TV

Clifford:

Still need the make and model. Depending on where you are in the country, you might have a Motorola, a Scientific Atlanata or other brand of DVR, and all of those manufacturers have multiple models that they supply to Comcast. Check the back of the unit for the brand name and the model.
