    =========================================
    Goofy Gags and Slapstick Stunts
Fill May 21 DVD Debut of
    THE VILLAIN,
Starring Film Legend Kirk Douglas and
    (A Very Young) Arnold Schwarzenegger
    =========================================
CULVER CITY, Calif. (March 15, 2002) - Silver-screen icon Kirk
Douglas and a pre-superstar Arnold Schwarzenegger get down and dirty -
not to mention mighty silly - in 1979's THE VILLAIN, making its
first-ever appearance on DVD on May 21 from Columbia TriStar Home
    Entertainment.
Directed with giddy abandon by Hal Needham (Smokey and the Bandit,
The Cannonball Run), the film is more than a spoof of Westerns - it's a
live-action cartoon inspired by the zany, animated hijinks of the Road
Runner and Wile E. Coyote. THE VILLAIN is filled with unbelievable
stunts and screwball humor that fills the screen with human versions of
gags moviegoers may have thought were possible only in cartoons. Douglas
plays "Cactus Jack" Slater, the movie's namesake villain, while
Schwarzenegger is a handsome stranger named, naturally, Handsome
Stranger. Look for such noted funny people as Paul Lynde (TV's
"Hollywood Squares") and Ruth Buzzi (TV's "Laugh-In") in supporting
    roles.
THE VILLAIN (1979): Also stars Ann-Margret, Paul Lynde, Foster
Brooks, Ruth Buzzi, Jack Elam. Executive producer Paul Maslansky.
Produced by Mort Engleberg. Written by Robert G. Kane. Directed by Hal
    Needham.

It's bad enough that this is fullscreen only, but to consider that an added value? I'd say that brings the value for me to $0.

This is a title I would love to own, but aside from it not being OAR, a bare bones disc for $24.95. Who's going to buy this?

And digitally mastered audio and video is added value? "What do they want, a cookie?" It's supposed to be this way.

And scene selections. Has Columbia Tri-star suddenly turned into buena vista from a few years ago, or have I just not read many press releases?

Ron, why not refuse to post release announcements that are not OAR?

I know the studios read this board, perhaps it will send a message...

    Robert,

    Totally my fault.

I receive and rarely read before posting

    them to the forum.

I'll try to be more careful in the future.

    Robert,
    That's a excellent idea IMHO.
Looks to me like Columbia thinks that nobody reads the list of "added value" features (this isnt a dig at Ron [IMG] ) and they try to list as much stuff as they can to make it look like a big list. I dont know why "full color artwork on disc" was not mentioned. [IMG] Most of the stuff they list there is nothing that I'd call an "added value". SE type stuff is added value IMHO (documentaries, interviews, etc.). I mean the disc is pretty much a bare bones release.
