Culver City, Calif. (May 20, 2002) - The tumultuous life of
influential bandleader Eddy Duchin is explored in the 1956 CinemaScope
biography THE EDDY DUCHIN STORY, coming to DVD for the first time on
    July 16.
Featuring strong performances by Tyrone Power ("The Razor's Edge,"
"The Mark of Zorro") as Duchin, who set New York society on its ear in
the 1930s and 1940s, and Kim Novak ("Vertigo," "Picnic") as society girl
Marjorie Oelrichs, with whom Duchin falls in love, the tune-filled
biography from director George Sidney ("Bye, Bye Birdy," Pal Joey)
includes the music of Cole Porter, George Gershwin and Oscar
    Hammerstein.
Duchin's charmed life takes a tragic turn, however, leading to an
emotionally moving climax. The DVD debut of THE EDDY DUCHIN STORY
features a widescreen presentation that maintains the look of the
original CinemaScope photography and offers digitally mastered audio and
    anamorphic video.
THE EDDY DUCHIN STORY: Also starring Victoria Shaw, James
Whitmore, Shepperd Strudwick, Frieda Inescort, Gloria Holden. Produced
by Jerry Wald. Screenplay by Samuel Taylor. Directed by George Sidney.

A Hollywood "biography" meaning not really much to do with the facts of Mr. Duchin's life. Nevertheless, very entertaining with lots of period music of the 30s and 40s.
