    ************************************************** ****************
    Three-Disc DVD Collection
    Featuring All 25 Laugh-Out-Loud Episodes
Coming Exclusively to DVD September 16

    * * * * Culver City, CA (July 8, 2003) - Hilarious, controversial and groundbreaking, SOAP
was the classic 1970s TV comedy parody of soap opera melodrama from respected TV sitcom
writer/creator Susan Harris (TV's "The Golden Girls"). *Now available for the first time and
newly restored and remastered, Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment will debut the SOAP:
THE COMPLETE FIRST SEASON three-disc DVD set on September 16 priced to own at
    $29.95 SLP.

    * * * * Winner of four Emmy Awards including Outstanding Lead Actor and Actress in a
Comedy Series, SOAP starred Robert Guillame (TV's "Benson," a spin-off from the original
SOAP series), Kathryn Helmond (TV's "Who's The Boss?"), Robert Mulligan (TV's "Empty
Nest") and featured stand-up comic Billy Crystal (America's Sweethearts, Analyze That) in
his debut acting role as television's first openly gay character.

A witty and ridiculously exaggerated satire on soap operas, this zany comedy threw
together a group of family members whose lives were larger than life and never dull! *Stories
take some bizarre and unexpected turns as the daily living of the wealthy Tate family and the
blue-collar Campbell family unfolds. *These two families have all sorts of problems with
some of the craziest cast of characters including sarcastic butlers, a World War II hero who's
still living in 1940's and a husband who once thought he could make himself invisible and
later was abducted by aliens, which all lead to some of the most hilarious antics ever on TV!

    Thanks for the details.

I remember watching this when it first aired. It was like "forbidden fruit" because of all of the controversy surrounding the content. Of course, it seems tame today.

It was one funny, funny show. Nearly every single actor added their own unique twist to this, and that's what made it so enjoyable.

The Benson spinoff was quite enjoyable too in its early years. James Noble was an absolute hoot.
