    thriller that will keep you hanging on the edge of your seat debuts on

    Special Edition

    DVD and videocassette July 30 from Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment.

    The film,

    based on the top-selling video game, stars Milla Jovovich (Fifth

    Element), Michelle

    Rodriguez (The Fast and the Furious), Eric Mabius (Cruel Intentions) and

    James Purefoy

    (A Knight's Tale).

    Written and directed by Paul W.S. Anderson (Mortal Kombat, Event

    Horizon).

    RESIDENT EVIL features state-of-the art visual effects and an amazing

    soundtrack with

    new and rare tracks from Slipknot, Marilyn Manson, Method Man and many

    more.

    The feature takes place beneath the industrial mecca known as

    Raccoon City.

    Unknown to its millions of residents, a huge underground bioengineering

    facility known

    as The Hive has accidentally unleashed the deadly and mutating T-virus,

    killing all of its

    employees. To contain the leak, the governing supercomputer Red Queen

    has sealed all

    entrances and exits.

    A team of highly trained super commandos, including Rain

    (Rodriguez), Alice

    (Jovovich) and Matt (Mabius), are on a race to penetrate The Hive in

    order to isolate the

    T-virus before it overwhelms humanity. In order to accomplish their

    mission, they must get

    past the Red Queen's deadly defenses, face the flesh-eating undead

    employees, fight killer

    mutant dogs and battle The Licker, a genetically mutated savage beast

    whose strength

    increases with each of its slain victims.

    That's my main question with this disc. The director himself mentioned in interviews that the director's cut would be out on DVD. Either this IS a director's cut with some scenes of violence reinstated (and CTHV haven't bothered to promote the fact) or the chance of a future real director's cut has now become much more remote. Bummer...

    Since the movie had to be edited from the initial version because of the violent content (which would have made it NC-17 without changes) I would assume that this isn't the Director's Cut due to its R rating.

    I want one though. A director's cut that is.

    CTHV press releases aren't exactly known for their accuracy. The director's cut might well be on the upcoming DVD.
