    * * * * Culver City, Ca. (12/30/02) *Talk about family values! TV's most
    dysfunctional family *the Bundys *is also one of its funniest and most
    popular in
    television history. *The series now comes to home entertainment when
    Married
    With Children: The Outrageous Episodes! Volume # 1 debuts on DVD
    February 4
    from Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment.

    * * * * This offbeat family (pre-cursors to The Osbournes) features
    patriarch Al
    Bundy (Ed O'Neill), wife Peg (Katey Sagal), daughter Kelly (Christina
    Applegate)
    and son Bud (David Faustino). For 11 seasons, Married?With Children was
    one of
    the most outrageous TV comedies ever produced. The series changed the
    face of TV
    family sitcoms forever with its bawdy humor and campy characters. *The
    less than
    loveable yet ironically endearing Bundys attempt to survive a generally
    miserable
    middle-class existence with the most outrageous means possible.

    Married---With Children Volume 1 features five outrageously
    guffaw-inducing
    episodes including the infamous "Lost Episode" deemed too raunchy for
    TV. *The
    five episodes featured are:

    * * * * "I'll See You In Court (The Lost Episode)" ? Peg and Al go to
    a motel called
    * * * * The Hop On Inn. When the Bundys and their neighbors Steve and
    Marcy
    * * * * realize the place videotaped them between the sheets without
    their knowledge,
    * * * * they decide to sue. But when they get to court, it's Al and
    Peg's sex life that's on
    * * * * trial!"
    * * * * "A Dump of My Own" ? Al Finally realizes a life-long dream
    ? to build his own
    * * * * private bathroom. But somebody in the Bundy house is trying
    to sabotage his
    * * * * lair-like lavatory. And surprise! It isn't the tidy bowl
    man!
    * * * * "You Better Shop Around ? Part 1" ? It's a long hot
    summer and the Bundys are
    * * * * sweating it up. When the ancient air conditioner Al buys
    blows out the
    * * * * neighborhood, he finally finds a way to keep his family
    cool ? he moves them
    * * * * into the local supermarket!"
    * * * * "You Better Shop Around ? Part 2" ? After taking over
    the supermarket, the
    * * * * Bundys win a shopping spree. But Marcy insists she's
    the real winner. The store
    * * * * settles the dispute with a competition: the first one
    to fill their cart with $1000
    * * * * worth of groceries wins! *"Leave It To Beaver's" Jerry
    Mathers guest stars as
    * * * * himself.
    * * * * "No Chicken No Check" ? Kelly and Bud buy a car
    together and Al gets them a
    * * * * great deal on auto insurance ? by registering it as
    a farm vehicle. The Bundy
    * * * * kids must have a chicken in the car at all times,
    but breaking the policy is the
    * * * * least of their worries when their fighting makes
    everything go fowl.

    Thanks for the press release news, Ron. Hopefully this is just a test of the popularity of the series. Since I would prefer that they release them in season sets. Have to say that those 5 episodes are some of the best of the series though.
    Especially the "Supermarket" 2-parter. Wish that they would have included the episode with the Moon Men though. I still love that episode. "Moon men stole my socks." Now that is a classic Bundy episode. I don't recognize the shows by their titles, but is the bathroom one the one with the Pferguson Toilet? "Bawusssh." [IMG]

    The episode "A Dump of My Own" contains one of my all time favorite lines from a TV show.

    Peggy: "Al, what's that Ferguson (toilet) have that I don't?"

    Al: "A job".

    From the description, I am sure I have seen the "lost episode" twice on Norwegian television (or TV3 to be precise, so it is more accurately Scandinavian television). Was it just not aired in USA?

    David - If no one purchases this set then CTHV thinks no one is interested in Married With Children and scuttles any chance of releasing season-by-season sets. But by that same rationale, it seems that if you buy this set, CTHV thinks "best-of" sets are the way to go, thus ensuring that all we ever see is "best-of" sets with no chance of a season-by-season release. It's the classic You're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't....

    Basically, the only thing we can do is organize some kind of petition. Not one of those "release it" petitions, but simply one stating that we'd have gladly picked up the set, if it wasn't a 'best of' collection, and that poor sales are most likely due to that.

    The Digital Bits is also announcing it for that day. Well, I guess the hopes for a season set this year is starting to diminish. But if we don't support the releases, then we can definatly count out a possible future release of Season Sets. [IMG]

    Shame that Columbia/TriStar is taking this route with MWC, but I suppose it's better than having NO episodes on DVD.
    Rumor has it that Disney might pull a similar stunt with my personal favorite - "Home Improvement" - by releasing a "Best Of" Disc/s. [IMG]
    TV on DVD is great. I just wish that the studios would follow Fox's lead and ONLY do season sets. Disney has only released season/series sets so far, so I'm hoping that the "Home Improvement" plan gets changed. [IMG]

    If you want season sets of MwC you best buy the 'Best of..' disc. CTS is just testing the market... if it sells good they will not turn down the chance to milk us MwC for 11 seasons worth of shows [IMG]

    I'm glad Brainscan is finally hitting the shelf. I've been waiting on this title since the advent of DVD.

    Again the market is changing and everyone is looking at the best ways to milk the DVD cow. Season sets are nice for fans, I buy them for many but not all programs. But, but, but many of my friends like just a few episodes of programs enough to buy them. Season sets are high priced boxes to pass over. They bought TV this way on VHS and would like to do it this way again.

    From my personal point of view I like season sets, but I am not all viewers. So I expect to see this change hit even more television shows. May not like it, but I wish we could have both so both groups can get what they would like.

    Well there's no reason why you can't have both. Rhino are selling their season (or half season) sets of Transformers and the individual discs.
    And over in all territories apart from R1, FOX are releasing selected episodes from the later seasons of the X-FILES (the arc episodes) as stand alone discs while also releasing the season sets. The final episode 'The Truth' is due for release on January 27th in the UK. I have also heard rumours that Universal is going to be releasing single disc 'Best of' Xena releases (perhaps with supplements) once they finish releasing the season sets this year.
    I've heard people say that following such a release strategy in America would only confuse people - but I don't agree with this. How could somebody a confuse thick 3-7 disc season set costing $XX(X) amount with a single disc release costing $20 or so? Does everyone here have such a low opinion of the intelligence of the average American consumer?
