ANy idea how the transfer compares to the previous release? Wondering if it's worth the double-dip?

The real question is how this stacks up against the Superbit edition. It would have been nice if they used that version here.

I like this movie, but I have the original release. I'm not seeing anything worth the rather high price of upgrading.

    Super Bit has 5.1 DTS.

I have both previous versions so I have the deleted scenes and the special "making of" feature on the normal DVD release.

Looks like here's what you'd get that's objectively "new" to this set:

DVD FEATURES NEW TO THIS EDITION:
"The Mithra Treatment": Jim Henson's Original Treatment of the Film
    Character Illustrations
    Storyboards

I've already got the amazing book about this movie so I'm not sure how much these "extras" are worth.

Besides: Why couldn't they have included DTS on this collectors version? This forces the audio/videophile to buy the super bit as this SE is not the definitive auido/video transfer despite the extras and lavish treatment. It makes no sense...

p.s. Columiba has officially made an ememy of me today with their announcement of the Annie SE with 5.1 DTS and a Pan-Scan ONLY transfer. All my desire to be polite and civil about this studio have vanished but I'm working hard to keep in check...

How cool is this? Very! (Okay, I know my question was rhetorical, but I had to answer it anyway). Thanks for the news Ronald. And, thanks for the pics Christian, I love the look of it. This was one of my favs growing up, and I can still watch now and enjoy it.

I definitely think that if someone doesn't have the Dark Crystal on DVD yet...or only has the super bit...this SE is a must-buy (easily justified with a host of extras obviously not on the SB version).

Those of us with both previous versions may have some fence-walking to do...

I think alot of us only like to buy one version of a movie and generally stick with it. I also don't care much about extras, so I'm perfectly fine with the normal version.
If the Superbit versions came out first I'd probably buy those.

I resent it a bit when studios start putting out 3 and 4 different versions of movies and don't even improve on the later versions.

Unless it comes with the crystal shard, I'll just stick with the Superbit.
