"A portrait of good humored independency and sexual honesty!" - Rocky Mountain News

Award-Winning and Witty Romantic Comedy *About Love, War and Farming
From Respected International Director Alexander Rogozhkin

Official Selection - Toronto and Telluride Film Festivals
Debuting December 2 on DVD and Videocassette

    * * * * Culver City, CA (September 22, 2003) - An acclaimed, beautifully shot and highly
amusing anti-war fable about the uncommon and touching bond developed between three
unlikely characters, THE CUCKOO is the award-winning romantic drama that won Best Director
and Best Actor honors at the 2002 Moscow International Film Festival and Best Narrative
Feature at the 2003 San Francisco International Film Festival, will premiere December 2 on
DVD and videocassette from Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment.

A fascinating and eloquent study about human relationships and communication barriers
from renowned writer/director Alexander Rogozhkin (Checkpoint), THE CUCKOO takes place
in September 1944, just days before Nazi-allied Finland withdraws from World War II. *A
Finnish sniper named Veiko (Ville Haapasalo), is chained to a rock by his compatriots and left to
die as punishment for his reluctance in battle. *Not long after, Ivan (Viktor Bychkov), a disgraced
Russian captain, en route to his court martial, is wounded in an accident. *Both men are taken in
by Anni (Anni-Kristiina Juuso), a young, resourceful Lapp widow, who offers shelter to one
while nursing the other back to health. *Isolated by the harsh winter weather on her reindeer
farm, the lines between enemy and ally disappear as the three unlikely roommates - from three
different cultures, speaking three different languages - overcome both comic and tragic
misunderstandings to form a passionate relationship together.

I'm looking forward to this. It played our small arthouse theatre, but I just couldn't fit it in! They've been bringing in a lot of good titles.
