I have been waiting for this disc to come ever since I first started getting DVDs at the end of 1999.....I could never get myself to purchase the featureless release because I always thought that this landmark film deserved special treatment on DVD. I guess my wish is granted. Thanks for letting us know Ron.[IMG]

    Bravo, Columbia!
I am looking forward to seeing the film again, and of course the extras. Philadelphia deserves a serious, well produced DVD edition.

Has anyone picked this up? I've only seen one review (DVD Talk), and they mention they think it's the same transfer, but I'd love to here some confirmation. Love the film but don't need the extras...

I also have the old disc and would love an image comparison to see if they're using the old transfer again.

Andrew and Bleddyn, sorry to be caught up in my own irritation at world events to be so remiss in helping you with your inquiry--as with most Columbia/Tri-Star Special Edition upgrades, the print used for the transfer is identical to the original movie-only disc, but the compression is far improved, so there are much less macro-blocking and other such clarity-compromising issues than you'll find on the first release...
