I need some subwoofer/system tuning help. I have a Denon AVR-1312. Attached are my old-school Infinity surround speakers. The main left/right speakers are the SM-115's. They are (were) beasts. The sub, I believe, is the Infinity Entra from the same rough time period.
Long story short. The left/right speakers gasket around the woofer disintegrated. I bought the replacement gasket but botched the install by using way too much glue. I was sloppy. Knowing that the woofer is now "compromised", what's the best way to configure the AVR to ensure the sub now does all of the heavy low frequency sound reproduction?
From the Denon manual, I read this suggestion:
“Crossovers” can be set when the “Subwoofer Mode” setting is “LFE+Main”, or when you have a speaker that is set to “Small”.
The default crossover frequency is “80 Hz”, which will work best with the widest variety of speakers. We recommend setting it to a higher frequency than the crossover frequency when small speakers are used. For example, set to “250 Hz” when the frequency range of the speakers is 250 Hz – 20 kHz.
Sounds below crossover frequency is cut off in the output from the speaker set up in “Small”. The cut off bass frequencies is output from the sub-woofer or front speaker.
Then in the Bass section of the Denon Manual, I read this:
“Subwoofer Mode” can be set when “Speaker Config.” - “Subwoofer” is set to other than “No”.
Play music or a movie source and select the mode offering the strongest bass.
If “Speaker Config.” - “Front” and “Center” are set to “Large”, and “Subwoofer Mode” is set to “LFE”, no sound may be output from the subwoofers, depending on the input signal or selected sound mode.
Select “LFE+Main” if you want the bass signals to always be produced from the subwoofer.
My thoughts are to configure all of the surround speakers as SMALL, then select Bass as LFE+Main... but what frequency should I configure the Crossover in the Denon and the back of the sub?
