Based on this article where Jon Mulvaney says there is a plan to release the Showa era Godzilla movies on DVD and Blu ray, which includes Rodan and War of the Gargantuas. I predict a box set ala the Zatoichi box set

This is a Godzilla sized dream come true, and it's just a matter of when now according to the article below !! :)

I'd be happy with just RODAN, which is also part of the recent Janus/Criterion acquisition, and skip all the Godzilla sequels, which were just too goofy and over the top for my tastes. The series devolved into kid-oriented slapstick and left any social and environmental concerns behind. I can't say I've seen them all, but I've seen some of them, and even as a teenager thought they were just silly and unfulfilling. Not trying to be snobbish -- I simply enjoyed GOJIRA and the American GODZILLA, KING OF MONSTERS of 1954 for its combining of monster destruction with the unleashing of a scientific force without knowing the consequences (more relevant now than ever). RODAN I like because the first half is (still) genuinely creepy -- especially in its much longer Japanese language edition -- it scared the bejeesus out of me as a kid, yet I kept glued to reruns of it on Million Dollar Movie all week long.

I also emailed Jon Mulvaney about possible adding King Kong vs Godzilla which I know is with Universal, but there is a 4K Japanese cut of it that would be A+ if Criterion could get it, and I also told him about Godzilla vs the Wolfman the fan made film. Wouldn't that make a great extra ? :)

War Of The Gargantuas is a fave.

That song the girl sings at the club is so memorable to me and appropriately of course is called...

I will be getting them all. I believe Godzilla's turn from heel to face is one of the most fascinating developments of the space race era.

You can watch all these films on the Starz app through the end of the month. The uncut RODAN, with what I think are fresh subtitles, is the most improved of the bunch that I've watched--while a certain softness seems intermittently baked into the cinematography, the murky cave action is now fully legible, and the whole presentation is uplifted as a result.
