Oh my Lord.

Rushmore✊🏼

Life Aquatic 🌊

"I LIKE IT!!"

There's no way I can spring the $400 unless it comes with a bulletproof vest and the power of invisibility so I can hide from the wife.

This is sort of terrible if individual films aren’t available to purchase.
I really only like two of these movies, and would probably only buy, or want to own one of them.

Bummer.
All these films already have individual releases except Isle of Dogs and French Dispatch.

...which were coincedently also announced.

Not in 4K. And many of those older Blu-rays have very dated masters that don't look so good anymore. I watched Bottle Rocket not too long ago and that one is an edge enhancement eyesore.

Not to mention the sickly yellow color grade.

This box set looks really beautiful, and kudos to Criterion for putting it out. But it is too rich for my blood.

So I was happy to see this line in the press release. "Isle of Dogs and The French Dispatch of the Liberty, Kansas Evening Sun will also be released as 4K UHD and Blu-ray editions. Announcement details to follow."

Isle of Dogs is my favorite Wes Anderson film. I have been greatly anticipating its arrival in a Criterion edition. I'm definitely in for the standalone release of that when it comes out by itself.

My first thought was "hell yeah I'm gonna buy this". I already own 7 of them (all but Darjeeling, which I'm not wild about) on Blu-Ray, and I quite like Isle of Dogs.

But man, that price point is brutal. Is it worth it to upgrade to 4K? And also have to deal with storing a bulky box? Do I love Wes that much? Maybe not. I think I just talked myself out of it. I'll get Isle of Dogs, and hope the rest get individual releases eventually.

*SIGH*

Every time I tell myself I'm done with buying a bunch of blu-rays, a release like this has to happen. I've already bought all of Anderson's films from Criterion so far, but most of them are due for upgrades from DVD... so I may splurge for this. It's coming out just after my birthday, so I might as well.

If these aren't available to buy individually at some point, then I guess I’ll just go without. It is pretty crazy to me that people cheer for releases like this. I understand there are people that love, or want most every single film from Wes Anderson. But even from my favorite directors (Stanley Kubrick, Paul Thomas Anderson, Richard Linklater) I have never liked, or wanted to own every single film from them.

I think it is BS, but happy for those that want this set.

Am I getting this right? 10 movies for 500$ so 50$ per movie?

Even with a sale those books will have to be very good to make this worth my while.

Correct. Same exact MSRP they would have if released separately (as Isle of Dogs and French Dispatch individual releases show). Criterion has four 50% off sales a year, two through Barnes & Noble, and two 24-hour flash sales direct at their shop. So this will be $250 then, which isn't really a bad price at all.

That's the point - same price as sold separately is not what I would expect from a box set. There should at least be some savings compared to ten single releases.

I am aware of these sales but still it does not change the fact that 10 times the single release price is not what I expect from a box set. I may just get the two single releases and be done with it as the box set looks nice but not 250$ nice.
