One of the most beloved films of all time, this sizzling masterpiece by Billy Wilder set a new standard for Hollywood comedy. After witnessing a mob hit, Chicago musicians Joe and Jerry (Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon, in landmark performances) skip town by donning drag and joining an all-female band en route to Miami. The charm of the group’s singer, Sugar Kane (Marilyn Monroe, at the height of her bombshell powers), leads them ever further into extravagant lies, as Joe assumes the persona of a millionaire to woo her and Jerry’s female alter ego winds up engaged to a tycoon. With a whip-smart script by Wilder and I. A. L. Diamond, and sparking chemistry among its finely tuned cast, Some Like It Hot is as deliriously funny and fresh today as it was when it first knocked audiences out several decades ago.

Had a feeling this was coming when the Some Like It Hot 4K turned up in Kino's "While Supplies Last" sale.

Does anyone know if the Kino 2.0 was a downmix?
I may have to buy this one too!
I remember also there was a problem with the sound, it was muffled or something. (e.g. the percussion in the opening music didn't sound good.)*

edit: Oh, that doesn't sound too hopeful:

*OK, found it. The Criterion wasn't good in the first place:
So, I guess it will be the same track now.

I have the previous Criterion release + the Kino (which I picked up in the "While Supplies Last" sale), so I'm covered all around.
The same here. This is the latest example of a home video release I’m going to resist buying because of my 2025 goal of purchasing less physical media. I have too many discs and not enough time to watch them all.

Criterion was far too late to the 4K UHD party and just sat there on the sideline watching, while Kino Lorber were licensing all their top MGM titles for 4K UHD. I'm curious as to why Kino Lorber doesn't hold on to their licence.

Perhaps disappointing sales.

They've probably sold as much as they're going to sell. Criterion has more film snob appeal.

A plausible assumption. However, Criterion isn't necessarily going to shift truckloads of Some Like It Hot 4K UHDs when there's already their own blu-ray out with all the same supplements, plus a really stellar US 4K UHD - which had a cheaper retail price to boot, when it first came out. Sure, it'll look good in their closet, but who is going to buy this? I have the entire Criterion Collection on disc, but I'm not buying this.

Gonna make a prayer circle for a Criterion of One, Two, Three then since Kino's letting things expire.

Now that I think about it, I also still have the original Fox Blu-ray of SLIH in my "Forever Marilyn" box set. This title is definitely well represented in my library.

I have three Blu-ray releases and one 4K/UHD release of Some Like It Hot. That's enough for me.

This would be a great opportunity for Criterion to improve the mastering of the mono track. The noise reduction is currently turned up to eleven, erasing a lot of ambient sounds, dialogue clearness etc. I'd prefer zero filtering but they could at least compromise and turn it down half way. Won't happen though, knowing how Criterion loves aggressive filtering.
