Merman's part in this has grown much more special to me, too, over the years. There just isn't enough footage of her, on stage or in film, and IAMMMMW helps to fill that huge gap.

I was just going to say this about her, but unfortunately it applies to most everybody involved: the thing that kind of hurts the most is remembering being at that age, going to this and other movies, and taking completely for granted the presence of Merman, Tracy, Durante, Silvers, and all the rest.

    Thank you, Mike.

Just think -- with 70 to go, there's ample time to get a heated enthusiastic discussion going re the whereabouts of the best pastrami, etc.

That's my favorite too. I started going years ago when Dave's Laser Place was just a walk away. I got tired of Jerry's fast as everyone that came for a visit wanted to go there.

When I finally got in there for my first time last year, I loved the place. It took me back to a couple of wonderful delis I'd known in previous lives in previous cities, so it automatically got points. But I also liked the pastrami, even if it's not the hedonistically obscene overflowing gut-busting frenzy-on-a-plate I worship at the Carnegie.

There's a certain local -- :) not mentioning any names :) -- who insists one must go to Langer's for the best pastrami. I look forward to getting one of those behind my belt next time.

EDIT: Credit where credit is due: actually first learned about Art's on the Junior High School Blu-ray.

Not to derail us back on topic, but I just got a notice from Amazon that they've changed the order to release day arrival so definitely going to have a viewing party at my place that Tuesday!

Ok, no fair talking about things like pastrami.
    Or corned beef.
    Or pizza.
    Or rye bread.
Or ANY bread, for that matter.
    Why?
    I'll tell ya why.
I lived in NY till age 13, 1962. Then NJ till 2005, when I moved to South Carolina.
The above mentioned culinary items, while available in SC, are NOT the same I grew up with in NY/NJ.
    Pizza? Domino's, Papa John's, etc.
Pastrami and corned beef? The local supermarkets.
    Breads? The local supermarkets.
    Get the picture?
So when the subject turns to pastrami, corned beef, etc., I'm asking.........
    No I'm BEGGING.............
PLEASE STOP! You're KILLING me!!!!! :(

Apologies, Jacksmyname, for any discomfort caused by our thoughtless, inconsiderate mentions of...

oh, let me see, what were they again?

The Carnegie Deli, of course. Second Avenue Deli (if no longer on Second Avenue). Artie's Delicatessen on the Upper West Side, which I just got to know last night. Katz's, for pure old-neighborhood gluttonous fun.

I apologize also for my own reckless behavior in bringing up the unmatched New Haven pizzas such as Frank Pepe's which, very considerately, I thought, opened a store ten minutes from me. I shall see to it this never happens again.

    (Is he smiling?) :)

I have a question. It may be general and not totally related to this title but it is something I have been wondering: when a composer scores a film, are the titles completed or is that scored at a different time? I'm especially wondering about films in which the titles are superimposed over film footage.

generally they would only have the orchestra booked for one chunk and all the music would be recorded then. why would they record titles separately?

    ok Charles, that did it.
I'm getting on a chair and jumping.........
I remember those places in NYC well.
Growing up with great food always available becomes something we take for granted. Mom was a good cook, as is my wife.
But certain foods you just have to go out for.
I'd almost give up my copies of Lawrence Of Arabia and Casablanca for just one slice of real pizza.
    Or a real bagel.
Just a taste of corned beef from one of those wonderfull delies in Manhattan. :)
