I was at this film's premiere in Philadelphia, with the cast and De Palma in attendance, after seeing so much of it being filmed. Couldn't have been more enthralled with the finished product.

I'm guessing it was bulldozed a few decades ago but what theater had the premiere?

I've always took the ending as that Jack was broken and had been driven a little crazy which made him think it was a good idea to use Sally's scream.

I suppose that works if you want to make Jack into an unredeemable A-hole with no morals but I seriously doubt that this was De Palma's intention given the preceding 2 hours. However, what you do get is what De Palma thinks about women, whom he's slashed, power drilled, cut in half, strangled with wires, slammed by trucks, etcetera, throughout his work. In this case, whatever there was between Sally and Jack means nothing to Jack in the end and he uses her death scream, the death scream of a woman who was horribly murdered while trying to help him, in the sleaziest way he has available. Yikes.

The Regency on the NW corner of Chestnut Street at 16th. It was demolished along with other theaters, for the construction of One Liberty Place.
