Never seen this film before and I just DVR'd this from TCM. Perfect timing. My preorder will be set to go as soon as I finish watching it this weekend.
a favourite of mine that I never did pick up. I'm all over this one. Love the cover art too.
Wonderful! And I love the cover.
I'm so glad they're using that poster for the cover- looks gorgeous. Really, though, I'd take a Criterion Rashomon Blu-ray packaged in a bag of lawn clippings, if that's the way they were selling it.
I wonder if the documentary will included anything about how Rashomon is used in sitcoms and dramas? I've never seen it, only heard about, so I will get this. The cover isn't bad either, but shouldn't there be a third face on the cover to convey the three different versions told?
In for the win! Like the cover, as others have mentioned. :tu:
And, as the sentiment is often mentioned, a beautiful Criterion cover....WHAT THE HECK DOES IT HAVE TO DO WITH THE MOVIE???
(And as I hate to be a Criterion-fanboy whiner--now that we already have "The Game" on Blu--but I can't see a new Kurosawa on Criterion without wondering when someone's going to free "Dreams" out of the Warner Archive.
The only imaginable thing worse than Criterion never getting "Dreams" is if they did get it, and came up with some loopy new "art" cover to replace the iconic kid-and-rainbow.)
I just saw a new print of this last summer. It looked fantastic. Glad to see it on BD.
+1 for Dreams released by anyone who'll do it justice.
On a casual glance, it appears that the man is in three "states" or poses simultaneously, echoing the three different accounts of the story in the film.
