DVDempire seems to think eraserhead will be released by the CC - true?
That has been listed like that there for quite a long time I think.
IIRC, Lynch and Criterion were in talks like 5 years ago before Lynch decided to release it himself.
Well, it's not like you can really call what Lynch did a *release*. It's more like highway robbery with gratuitous extorsion via excessive shipping charges for anyone not in the states. Honestly, I'd like to get my hands on a copy of Eraserhead, but just not that badly!
Not true. The president of Criterion went into some detail about what happened here: http://www.thedigitalbits.com/articles/criterionpb.html Scroll to the end.
you are missing out then. the release is just fine, and looks amazingly clean. i dont regret spending a few extra dollars to support an independent release. and if you are so concerned about shipping costs, buy it on ebay. CJ
Well to buy Eraserhead from David Lynch.Com(of which I am a member)it is US$40.00 for Shipping to Australia. Thats the same price as the disc. For me not having his Short Films and EH on DVD is almsost as bad as not having seen them, being am such a Lynch Freak. I will get them this year but It will be a bitter sweet deliver.
It's minimum $30US to ship it anywhere outside the States. I almost fell over in my seat when I saw 30bucks shipping to Canada. I had to send them an email asking if their site was accidently giving the shipping charge for China instead. For that much shipping Lynch himself had better be coming to my door to hand deliver it and then stay during my first viewing to give me a running commentary. It's beyond insulting.
The sad thing is if he would have just let Criterion handle it, it would have been less expensive and most likely the same quality. I can't see any advantages to his vanity press. It's like Einstein taking time out of his life to set up a book press in his basement.
