I just thought I would toss this out here.
Being one of the best film noirs of all time,
and being a Universal title that was (at one time)
available through Image Entertainment, I would
think with Universal's record with Criterion,
it might be nice if Double Indemnity
    got the full Criterion treatment.
The bare bones DVD really is sad.
    Any thoughts? Any hope?

    I'd ask Criterion next week.
I'd like to see this on DVD along with some other Universal titles that need SE's!

What a coincidence ! I had posted the exact same thought in the Studio Feedback Section about a month ago :

Double Indemnity definitely deserves full-blown Criterion Special Edition treatment. Universal should license this title out to Criterion instead of releasing it themselves.

It certainly makes sense, that's for sure.
    I'd buy it.

    Well-
I am thrilled that others feel the same as I do.
Since I won't be around on for the Criterion chat,
I hope some others of you bring this up.

I would pay just about anything for this. This is one of my favorite movies of all time and I would love to see the original delted ending. A commentary track would be a very welcome addition and if they were able to convince Wilder to do it, I would cream my jeans.
I think another great Criterion would be Wilder's "Ace in the Hole" aka "The Big Carnival". This is one of the most underrated films ever made and it has never been released commercially on any format since it's 1951 theatrical run. I'm still watching my copy that I recorded from TCM.

Eric, I agree wholeheartedly about "Ace in the Hole." I'm a newspaperman, and I think everyone in my profession should see that movie.
A CC "Double Indemnity" would be awesome. It's my favorite noir...
