I don't know if this has been mentioned here yet- a cursory search turned up nothing. If it has already been mentioned, my apologies for a duplicate post.
Criterion has the specs up for three new releases in the coming soon section:
    Ballad of a Soldier
    The Cranes Are Flying
    Bob Le Flambeur
    see the specs here

Great scoop! I am especially excited about Melville's Bob Le Flambeur. I can only hope this release will presage other Melville releases from Criterion, particular my favorite, the classic 'Le Samourai', plus 'Les Doulos' as well.

Thanks for the info. I've been planning to get the Ruscico versions of Ballad of a Soldier and The Cranes Are Flying but now I'll wait for the Criterions. Ruscico makes decent enough DVDs but the Criterions should be at least as good and will likely not be from PAL masters.

I have a friend who works over there and he sent me a copy a few weeks ago of:
    "Loves Of A Blonde"
    Pretty cool movie!
They've got some good stuff in the works, but it does take time!

New Yorker's releases seem to have slowed to a virtual crawl. Even worse, about two years ago, I emailed New Yorker to ask about a possible release of 'Le Samourai'. They were nice enough to respond promptly, but I was disappointed with the gist of the reply: 'no plans'.

I own a PAL version of 'Les Doulos', but - sadly - the disc was issued without English subtitles.

Amazon-France listed a PAL version of 'Le Samourai' for a release last October, but as Amazon is wont to do, they jumped the gun. The release is apparently still pending.
