Disney owns all of the old "Fox Five" (ie: the four Selznick films + Lifeboat), so its their call where Spellbound goes. I imagine Criterion probably does have Spellbound though. If it was with Kino (like with Lifeboat and Paradine Case), it would probably already be on blu-ray already.
I hear you, but COVID put most productions into limbo for 3 1/2 years before being able to get back up to speed, so anything in the pipeline would have been delayed or suspended for a least that long...if it was it place at the time..?

It appears Criterion and Janus will be starting a new line of home video releases called “Janus Contemporaries” in the fall, starting with the film “EO.”

Still waiting for Criterion to release The Devil and Daniel Webster which had a restoration last year.
Actually, I think it's going on 2-3 years since Scott MacQueen finished that restoration before his retirement from UCLA Film and Television Archive in 2021.

and I noticed that UCLA showed the restoration in thier theater almost 2 years ago. Robert, do you think the delay has to do with the after effects of the pandemic or just a logistics issue?

I think the delay is because of Criterion. They're slow when it comes to releasing titles.

I was thinking of an older Criterion dvd release last night and was curious if Criterion has the rights to issue a bluray for Hands Over the City? Wonderful film.

Well, their DVD of it is still in print, which means they haven't lost the rights to it. Given when the DVD was released, I would imagine that when licensed it for DVD, they probably had a more generic "home video" license than a specific DVD one, so while I could well be wrong, they probably can release a blu-ray of it.

I have an old blu-ray, but I'm looking forward to the 4K of Princess Bride. I've had a 4K tv and 4K all-region player for over 2 years, but so far the only 4K disc I bought is the MoC of The Cabinet of Dr Caligari. My disc purchases are mostly silent films.

I WILL NOT buy The Seventh Seal on 4k. Uh uh. Won't do it.

I said early on I wouldn't upgrade my Blu titles to UHD. And yet I have on dozens of titles.

But I can't imagine TSS could be improved upon enough to warrant the upgrade.

But it IS one of my favorite films. And, I'll be sure to read the reviews of the 4k/UHD. And then there'll be the next flash sale or B&N sale.

Damn it!

Guess what I just did.....
