Discussion in 'Blu-ray and UHD' started by Brandon Conway, May 7, 2008.
A new commentary makes sense as it was the old "Laserdisc is great, DVD sucks" commentary.
Got my copy of The Third Man last night. Hope to have a chance to revisit a classic later this week (wife is out of town for the week on business and my children are not quite ready for this movie).
From the latest Newsletter:
Looks like the next Brakhage set - which will include the four parts of Dog Star Man - will be on Blu as well as SD DVD.
Criterion's February 2010 blu-rays announced...
- Revanche (2008) - Lola Montès (1955) - Hunger (2008)
Since Dog Star Man is already on the first set, I think this means the first set will be released on Blu (and perhaps the second set too).
Tentative line-up for the second set:
The Wonder Ring
23rd Psalm Branch
Scenes From Under Childhood (Part One)
The Machine of Eden
The Domain of the Moment
Visions in Meditatiion 1-4
Unconscious London Strata
Boulder Blues and Pearls And
The Mammals of Victoria
From: First Hymn to the NIght - Novalis
I Take These Truths
The Cat of the Worm's Green Realm
Yggdrasill: Whose Roots Are Stars in the Human Mind
Most of these will be new to me (bolded the ones I've seen)
^ Great point. Probably will be both Vols. on Blu. /img/vbsmilies/htf/thumbsup.gif
In addition to the 3 new Blus (with their DVD counterparts), the DVD-only releases in Feb are:
- Make Way for Tomorrow
- Eclipse Series 20: George Bernard Shaw on Film - Major Barbara / Caesar and Cleopatra / Androcles and the Lion
Love these covers!
Just Got Monteray BR set ,was sorry to see java loading crap ,theres no need for this
man if only Make Way for Tomorrow was Blu. but still, exciting it's getting its home video debut in the states finally.
On their facebook page, Criterion pretty much confirmed that the first Brakhage set will be getting a Blu-Ray release

For those interested in the blu-ray replacement cases, this is Criterion's latest response to me...
Can we pool together and buy cases in bulk? I could use cases for Chungking Express, Last Metro and (grudgingly) Last Emperor.
The cost of shipping from one member to another would probably negate any savings from this idea.
Too bad it's more expensive for international customers. You're charged with $15 for the first two cases. After that it's also $2.50 for the additional cases. But for nine cases, your total would be $47.50, which is quite steep, personally.
Yojimbo and Sanjuro are coming in March and Seven Samurai is coming later in 2010
Excellent, though not terribly surprising, news!
Days of Heaven and Bigger Than Life also coming to Blu on 3/23/10.
I've been bummed that Walkabout is still nowhere to be seen, but if there was one title that could make up for it- DOH would be it for me. I'm floored by this- never expected it.
The only reason I'm not equally as blown away by Bigger Than Life, is that I haven't seen it yet. But based on everything I have heard/read about it over the years it WILL be an automatic blind buy.
wow wow wow wowowow.
Niiiice! I may finally own some of these titles...
There were so many times I almost bought "Days of Heaven" . . . so glad I held out! More Malick on Blu-ray is always good news.
