    Very sad news. :(

It's possible he delivered a few to them in advance, though. Guess we'll find out tomorrow.

Wasn't Parasite released on Blu-ray a couple of weeks ago...and now another Blu-ray release?

    Yup.

If they think a declining physical media market can support two releases of the same film in the same year, more power to them.

For those that don't click the link, Criterion will also be releasing Memories of Murder.

Its not unusual. They did the same thing with Traffic 20 years ago.

That being said I don't think this version of Parasite is going to be showing up on Walmart shelves and Criterion's presence in B&M's is shrinking rapidly.

The difference being, 20 years ago there was a robust market for physical media.

Criterion wouldn’t do it if they didn’t think they’d have a chance to do well with it, so I root for the success of the release.

I don't mind Criterion releasing Parasite just as long as they should release other titles that are not on Blu-ray yet.

Didn’t Criterion also do this with The Curious Case of Benjamin Button to use a somewhat more recent example?

Best case scenario would probably be: if the licensing was completed before the film won Best Picture, the fee is probably less. Among physical media enthusiasts, the Criterion is more desirable than the Universal. If this sells well for them, the proceeds can go towards funding projects that aren’t likely to sell nearly as well.

Nah Benjamin Button is closer to Royal Tennenbaums and Life Aquatic in that it went straight to Criterion as far as blu ray is concerned.

I don’t have much interest in revisiting Parasite but I’m all for other people buying it to increase the amount of more obscure titles for Criterion to release!

I would have liked to see a cartoon clue for this title...
