I am reading Fjodor dostovjeskij's novel Crime and Punishment and was wondering which version is the best of this that has been filmed? Are any of them good?
This is a novel Stanley Kubrick could have turned into a great film!

I don’t know about the best movie, but I have always thought that Colombo was modeled on the detective—at least in the best episodes.

I heard the same thing Lew. I never read the novel, but when I saw the NBC version on TV a few years ago, Ben Kingsley's Porfiry immediately made me think of Colombo. As a huge Colombo fan, I enjoyed the movie. So I'd say the the 1998 TV version is good, although I can't say it's the best because I haven't seen any other version.
