I've been reading all the various threads on the Universal Monster Legacy sets, and how the older versions of these films went out-of-print.

Now I am wondering when we might see a reissue of this film, if it might include the two sequels, and possibly a second version of the original in 3-D.
(Yes, I hear that it would require sepecial equipment and glasses to get the 3-D, not just those little red/blue cheap-os.)

    Any thoughts?

Unlike the rest of the "classic Universal monster " films, Creature from the Black Lagoon is a film I tend to watch in the summer (as opposed to the fall), and I am itching to revisit it but want to know if a more souped up version is on the DVD horizon.

We can only hope that DVD's of the 1950's 3-D films be released in the field sequential system some day. But, I doubt it will ever happen.

On another forum (non DVD related), a gentleman with ties to Universal (and who has been fairly accurate in the past) has said Universal plans to release 3 more monster sets shortly before Halloween:

    Creature Series
    Mummy Series
    Invisible Man series

Remember - this is not confirmed by the studio so please treat with cautious optimism.

Here's the original post from the monsterkid website:

"Word from a very good inside source at Universal who attended a meeting there yesterday is that Universal will release three new Legacy Collections on either October 5th or 12th. The collections are:

    The Mummy Legacy Collection
    The Invisible Man Legacy Collection
    The Creature Legacy Collection

No word on whether a new box set (containing all three collections) with mini-busts will be released also. One can only hope.

This plan for releasing more monster sets makes a lot of sense, as the new sets have evidently sold well. It could tie in with Halloween and with the DVD release of Van Helsing. I'd definitely buy the Creature and Mummy sets.

I'd rather see Universal putting their efforts into releasing previously unreleased "Monster" films than to reissue the previously released films over & over again. We need NEW stuff!

You know what I'd love to see? A monthly Universal Monster/Horror release, a la Fox's Studio Classics. One film per month, bargain-priced at $14.99.

Here are some cover art for some Australian releases that are supposed to be coming soon, so hopefully, we will see similar releases here in R1 soon:

So only the INVISIBLE MAN set is rated M, rather than PG!

I'd like to see a "Creature" set with all 3 of the films. Perhaps Universal could somehow grab the rights to the Mystery Science Theater 3000 episode that featured "Revenge of the Creature" too. That combined with the extras from the first film's original DVD and trailers from the other 2 films, this could be a nice set.

Well, if the CREATURE and INVISIBLE MAN sets are released, there will be plenty of new titles, as the sequels to those films have yet to be released on DVD.

I was thinking more along the lines of "The Incredible Shrinking Man" & "The Monolith Monsters".

Those Aussie releases are NOT multi-disc sets... they're single-disc editions (sans sequals). The documentaries and such are the same as the ealier DVD releases, so these are apparently rereleases with new artwork. However, that artwork evokes the recent Legacy sets... Hmmmmm. This DOES suggest that more R1 titles are in the works, but it seems franchise sets aren't necessarily a guarantee.

It WAS nice to see those covers though. [IMG]

I would love to see those also, along with some of the really rare Universal Horror titles from the 1930's and 1940's(SECRET OF THE BLUE ROOM, HORROR ISLAND, THE STRANGE CASE OF DR. RX, etc.).

Like Craig Beam stated, those DVD covers got me drooling until I noticed they are just single-DVD releases and do not contain the sequels or other goodies I would hope for in a re-release of these in R1.

I'd definitely be up for the creature sequels. That is the only one of these sets I'd be interested in re-buying.

So would I, Larry! But we have enough on our hands waiting for Universal to at least release those films to DVD that were at least out on tape in the first place! [IMG]
