Strange problem..The number 4 button on my Samsung DirecTV HD reviever remote turns off my Harmon Kardon reciever. It doesnt turn it back on tho if I hit it again. So any time I change channels and directly punch in the number 4 the reciever is turned off. Is this common for remotes to do this.

I plan on buying a good univeral remote because as it stands I have 5 remote now. Im worried, however, since the universal remote will probably send out the same signal, that it will do the same thing!

Can anyone think of a way to remidy this? Its a real pain in the #*&!!

That's interesting (and definately a pain).

From what I can find, the Samsung sends an EFC Code of 053 when you punch the number 4 button. I cannot for the life of me find a discrete HK Power Off EFC of 053. The EFC for the HK Power should be 173 (but that is not a discrete code, in other words it is power off and power on).

If you use the HK remote and turn the power off, does it change the channel to 4 on the Samsung?

You are correct in the assumption that a Universal Remote will send the same EFC for the Samsung '4' button.

You might want to post this question over at remotecentral in the forums there.

Thanks Paul,

I just tried the H/K AVR230 remote to see if it acted as "4" on the Sammy and it doesnt.

I didnt know about remotecentral and I will give it a shot.

Thanks again!

I have the exact same problem, with a Samsung SIR T151 HD tuner and HK AVR 125. I have searched the web including remote central, and there is several mentions of the problem but no solution. You can see the remote central thread at http://www.remotecentral.com/cgi-bin...msung|turn|off Yes it does the shut off problem with universal remotes, I had a All for one remote that I sent in to get the latest codes and then in turn learned the buttonss to my MX500 and the problem presists. My solution has been use the up and down arrows since I only get a few channels in HD. If anyone knows more let me know, until then I can easily live with it.
