I watched No Questions Asked today, and I had seen it before, but it was long enough ago that some twists had been forgotten. Loved seeing so much of the MGM backlot used for city street scenes, and I enjoyed the cast. WIlliam Reynolds was particularly young. Barry Sullivan is a fine actor but not very charismatic. I guess James Craig wasn't under contract at the studio any more, but I could have seen him playing the lead. I was hoping Eddie might mention some background on Dan Dayton as the accommodating cabbie, but no.

I can understand Ford and Huston, but Hopper makes it a strange photo shot.

This morning, I finally got around to watching No Questions Asked. Like you, I had seen this movie beforehand but I remember some of the twists like the robbery at the theater and the swimming pool ending. A good movie with some really good character actors in small roles in it, particularly those that appeared in another 1952 movie called High Noon.

Eddie Muller's Film Noir Foundation posted this photo on their Facebook feed today. Man, Gloria Grahame was one sexy actress. There were better looking actresses, but few had the sex appeal of Gloria in her heyday.

You're right. She was a special beauty. She had "something" unique about her. And at her best, she was also an amazing actress. For The Big Heat alone, she's on the throne...

This weekend's "Noir Alley" movie is "Armored Car Robbery" (1950) with a cast of "Who's Who in Film Noir". Such as Charles McGraw, William Talman, Douglas Fowley, Steven Brodie and playing the femme fatale role is Adele Jergens. Richard Fleischer directed this RKO "B" movie that is so entertaining and good that in my opinion, it's earned an "A" movie rating. This is another repeater on "Noir Alley" that last played in July 2018. I'm pretty sure that was my last viewing, so I'll watch it again because it's only 68 minutes long.

Updated TCM's Noir Alley 2024 Schedule:

12-02-23: Black Angel
12-09-23: I Wouldn't Be in Your Shoes
12-16-23: Beware, My Lovely

05-04-24: Dark Passage
05-11-24: Follow Me Quietly

And used it freely. I always found her to have an insouciant look about her.

Yep, I'll rewatch Armored Car Robbery again, too, since I likewise haven't seen it since it last aired on TCM. Despite the generic title, I remember liking it a lot.

I have one nitpick with Armored Car Robbery that I won't talked about until I see it again.

I was reminded of this at a recent screening of Oklahoma!, in which sometimes one is tempted to cheer Ado Annie on in being unable to say no.

Noir Alley

A police officer tries to find half a million dollars stolen by gangsters in ARMORED CAR ROBBERY ('50).
See it tonight at midnight ET or catch the encore Sunday at 10am ET on #NoirAlley hosted by Eddie Muller.

Growing up in the 1960s, I find it ironic and rather funny the two actors that played the best "baddies" during the film noir era were William Talman and Raymond Burr. Who would have thought it that Hamilton Burger and Perry Mason would be on the wrong side of the law earlier in their acting careers.:)

Yeah, I'm currently watching Perry Mason episodes off Freevee at lunchtime, so knowing William Talman is the principal baddie here is very amusing.

 Damn, after listening to Eddie’s comments, I just had to laugh about how much he parroted my previous post. By the way, Armored Car Robbery is a really good movie. One of the best “B” film noirs from RKO.

I agree. Thoroughly enjoyable. You know the moment he writes down that name and phone number on the matchbook despite being warned not to, it's going to come back to bring Talman down. Despite the brief run time, the movie didn't seem rushed, abbreviated, or in any way incomplete. Pretty amazing little movie!
