Yeah, that's another thing that bother me about this movie. Anyhow, I really enjoyed the film and will look forward to its eventual Blu-ray release. I hope Eddie does a commentary for it.
And I'm guessing the transfer we'll get will be far superior to what was broadcast today. I assume THAT was the 16mm print that rescued Eddie at the noir festival!

No that was the restored version. As the restoration credits were shown. The opening credits were terrible, but the rest of the movie looked good. I was worried when those rough opening credits first appeared.

I saw the restoration credits, but I wasn't impressed with the transfer even after the main titles. Oh, well, I'll still want to pick it up when it's released (or review it if I get the chance).

I wasn't impressed by the transfer either. Still, it's better than nothing. At any rate, I pick up every Flicker Alley release so...

Actually, I was kind of impressed after looking at the opening credits. I still have it on my DVR so I'll take closer look at it again.

Not bad for a "B" movie from a third rate studio. However, I have to agree with Eddie's "ending" comments about "Trapped". I'll discuss further when others have watched it, but I didn't enjoy that sudden film shift. According to the "before" film credits, this film's home video rights belong to Flicker Alley right now. Perhaps, they're going to release it on Blu-ray, but based on their prior BD releases, it's going to be expensive. Overall, pretty good video presentation considering the history of this film.

I watched the Flicker Alley Blu-ray of "Trapped" on Tuesday. Considering it was a lost film that has been restored as best they could, the video presentation was very good. The audio commentary by Alan Rode and Julie Kirgo was very entertaining and informative. There is one 15 minute featurette with Eddie Muller and others discussing the film and actors. They cover the sad life of Barbara Payton. There is another 11 minute featurette about the director Richard Fleischer. Max's son was one fine director and has a long resume of good films to his credit.

And I look forward to seeing what he has to say about classic The Big Sleep next week.
So do I. Speaking of "The Big Sleep" this film sequence always cracks me as Bogart and Vickers play it very well. I have to admit it, next to "Casablanca" this is probably my favorite Bogart movie.

One of my all-time favorite movies is on Noir Alley this weekend. "The Big Sleep" (1946) starring Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall. I wonder wish film version Eddie will be showing?;) Yeah, there are some plot holes, but I always found this film so entertaining.

Yes, I love The Big Sleep, too, but I've watched it so many times, I probably won't watch it tomorrow. I'm very interested in Eddie's comments, of course, and that's why I'll be tuning in.

He'll show the official version, the plot of which is indeed hard to follow. I remember when MoMA showed the preview version for the first time and had a speaker give us a film class on the differences between the 2 versions. It was very illuminating. If I remember correctly, both versions were shown that day so we could compare the changes made.
Anyway, one day my wife and I decided that it was about time we deciphered the plot; sat down and watched the film very carefully and compared notes afterward as we debriefed. It did make sense in a very convoluted way. Needless to say, every time we see it, we have to work hard at it all over again. That's what it makes it so much fun and why it never gets old. Great film. And yes, Jack Warner was right when he asked Hawks to reshoot and reedit the film.

I wouldn't say I was disappointed in Eddie's comments on The Big Sleep, but the basic facts about its making are pretty well known to buffs. I was dissatisfied that he didn't talk a little about the minor supporting actors (other than Dorothy Malone). They are rarely mentioned when folks talk about the movie, and they're deserving of some mention, I think.

He talked about Sonia Darrin, who played Agnes. I thought she was excellent in this film even though she didn't get a screen credit. The more you listen to Eddie, it's obvious his comments are meant for a general audience more so than film buffs. He definitely has a bias towards talking about writers which isn't surprising since he's a writer too.

Yes, he did, but Elisha Cook, Jr. who played memorably with Bogart in The Maltese Falcon had a heartbreaking role here and didn't merit a mention. And how about the actor playing Eddie Mars? I'd love to have known where he came from and what happened to him. Yes, I can do my own research and will, but for one of the pivotal noirs of the genre, I guess I'm selfish and wanted more.

Like I said, Eddie likes to spend a lot of time talking about writing and to a lesser degree the movie’s production.
