Plumbing Express is coming out Monday to start on the work. I would love to hear some feedback from people who have already been through this. Maybe someone knows of a FAQ list I need to read, or advice or questions I need to ask. Thanks!

Is this some sort of surgical procedure involving your intestines?

    John,

Is it just the service to the house and/or throughout the house?

I had the service redone without any real problems at a previous home. I didn't like the way the lawn grew back in so they came back and resodded the area. Painless experience overall.

    Jason,

Jason: I wish.....that would probably be less trouble!

Bill: It's the entire house. Yard line was replaced back in 1993, with similar grass related issues. Monday they are doing a complete interior copper refit. It will probably be fine. But, anything plumbing related makes me nervous because I've had 5 leaks in the past 4 years. There is nothing, and I mean nothing scarier in the world than to wake up in the middle of the night to go the bathroom and hear the sound of streaming water! And I don't mean from me! If you haven't experienced this first hand, you wouldn't understand.

Ahh, someone else that has polybutylene plumbing. My townhouse has it but so far i haven't had any problems with it (the house is approx 13 years old).

    Are your pipes leaking?

    Man, sounds pretty scary.

Are they giving you a good price to re-plumb your house?
There is a plumbing express in my area so maybe i'll have them take a look at mine.

I didn't have polybutylene but have just replaced 44 year old galvanized with copper. The repipe with new water heater came to $4885 for a 2 bath single-story home.

Isn't there a class-action lawsuit about polybutylene? I know the plumber I used was doing a lot of repipes in condo complexes that were originall plumbed with it.

Jeff: Well since my pipe is one of the worst types(leaks) it's a no cost retro-fit. Check and see if you have the right(or wrong)kind of pipe. There are other qualifiers as well. Check out Bill's link above for more info.

Dennis: Yes, I am part of that lawsuit.
