I'm watching the series on DVD, and I'm only on season 5 right now. No spoilers please, but I'm wondering:
[*]Does a ninth season seem likely?[*]How is Atlantis being received? Is it popular? It it good?[/list]

I can't really answer, since I've only seen one episode, but it was in the realm of OK. It seemed like more of the same to me.

Is the eighth season still in first-run right now, or did they have some kind of big wrap-up episode?

They are airing the summer season rap this Friday. They'll take some time off and then conclude the season in a few months.

As usual, I'm getting caught up just in time for the end. :frowning: Well, can't complain about 8 years. It could have ended after five.

The last half of the Stargate season begins in January.

I'd hardly compare Atlantis to SG-1 at all. I think they got stuck in a rut around the 2nd episode, and I don't think that I'm going to watch any more of them after tomorrow.

As for season 9, I haven't heard any official word that 8 is the last. Got a source? Oh, forget it. It would be too depressing.

I haven't heard either that the 8th season is the last but I wouldn't be surprised if it was.

I like Atlantis. SG-1 and Atlantis is a great 1-2 punch on Friday nights.

They havent made a decision about Season 9. And to say there wont be is a guess. There wasnt supposed to be a 8 and there is. never underestimate the power of good ratings. Its one of there top two shows. It will be back in some form wether is be a shortened season, tv movies, direct to video movies and so forth.

I like Atlantis. It has gotten better as the season has gone on, and im looking forward to seeing the last half of the season as they have some cool stuff planned

What I would like to see, if there is a season 9 for SG1, is to retitle the show as "Stargate: SGC" and do episodes on what the other SG teams are doing as well as SG-1. Given the number of SG teams certainly SG-1 is not the only one saving the universe. I think this would open up the show to new characters and situations and allow the SG-1 cast a break to do other projects if they so desire.

As for the current season of SG-1, I like it. While I would like to see more of O'Neill, the writers are pretty accurate in portraying his role as a general as having to "fly a desk" as opposed to being on the front lines where all the fun is. In my Navy career I've encountered many officers who dreaded being "kicked upstairs" because they can no longer do the fun stuff. RDA does an excellent job showing how frustrating it can be to be removed from the action and have to make the tough decisions.

If this is to be the last season I hope the following items get resolved in the remaining episodes:

1. What happened to (ex?) VP Kinsey? Will he get the fate he so richly deserves?
2. When is Jacob Carter coming back?
3. Whatever happened to Cassandra as a result ofDr. Fraiser's death
?
4. And of course will anything happen between Sam and Jack.

Guess we will have to wait until January.

Obviously a lot of people disagree with me, but I think Atlantis has been consistently better than SG1 this season. Maybe not every episode, but ~75%, IMHO of course. I especially liked last weeks episode.

SG1 has been mixed. Not having Jack go on missions changes to focus of the show to the SGC, which isn't necessarily bad...just different.

I'm going to have to agree with some of ya'll about Stargate Atlantis. I've watched each episode and it has_ gotten better as it goes along. I'm looking forward to seeing it tonight! I think I miss having Jack on SG-1 going with the others etc.. I also miss the original General too. He played the part quite well.

There will be nothing between Sam and Jack since...
..Sam accepted a marriage proposal from her cop boyfriend in season 8.

I think Stargate Atlantis will be around for a second season from the look of the ratings and SG-1 has it's best ratings ever (so who knows if season 9 will happen or not). Also I think some things mightb also depend on how well the new Battlestar Galactica series will do when it starts on Sci-FI in Jan, 2005 (but you lucky UK viewers will get that series starting late next month on Sky One unless they decide to change their schedule like they seem to do with many sci-fi shows).

Yeah, but the actor's brothers are the executive producers. I'd imagine that buys him a little safety.
