I have a new DSS in my living room.
I have an old DSS and card now taking up room in my garage.
I got a brilliant idea. Hook up the other DSS in my bedroom and pull the card and put it in the bedroom when I want to watch tv.
Here are the questions:
1. Can I do this?
2. I looked at the cables outside cause I was going to split off the actual dish cable and I noticed the put some kind of black gunk over the end of the coax... what the heck is it?
3. If I unscrew the cable and some of the black "gunk" comes off... will that hurt my reception?
Thanks for the help.

1 Is no. Each card is married to its reciver when programed by Directv.
To have two recivers on one dish you have to have a dual LNB
with two cables for both to work. You can't use a splitter.

You can get a dual LNB for your dish and run a cable from it to a receiver in each room. It will cost $5 a month to DirecTV for the 2nd receiver.
