Man dies playing all-night computer game
A Thai man has died from heart failure during an all-night computer game.
The 22-year-old was found dead at his computer terminal in an internet cafe in Chiang Mai.
Police say his friends told them he was addicted to the game and played it from Wednesday evening until he was found slumped over the computer's keyboard at noon on Thursday.
They confirmed that Thanet Sommoi, a worker at a ceramics factory, died from heart failure.
He had been playing Half Life: Counter Strike, which casts players in the role of terrorist or counter-terrorist. Up to 32 people can join in on the internet.
Police say investigators believed Thanet developed tension and fatigue after playing the game for hours, and his heart eventually failed.
The Nation reports he was taken to hospital, but was pronounced dead after doctors failed to revive him.
A moment of silence for the worlds most giving gamer.

I find that bizarrely amusing...
Though, I suppose, there are worse ways to go out...

Us american gamers have gotten used to buying pizza and drinking soda for that caffeine boost, so there's no way we can go out from fatigue. As for heart failure...we don't eat anything but pizza, so I think that would make our cholesterol lower.
I'm only 15, so I don't feel the effects of gaming too much, except for the lack of sleep.

Has this been reported by anyone besides Ananova.com? That site is notoriously false. Kinda like the Weekly World News of the 'net. Entertaining site though. :)

Fatigue has little to do with eating and drinking while playing... although those can stave some off. Ultimately, lack of sleep will get you anyway. The body needs the rest to recuperate.
I dunno about pizza = lower cholesterol...

last time I checked pizza had gobs and gobs of cholesterol!
Have fun playing games, but get rest. I used to play through the night a few times in college. It was usually bad news the next day - and two days after that. At one point, I managed to stay up 3 nights in a row; I finished 4 exams and a couple computer project in that time. The last night, I turned the spots in the comp lab to hit me anytime I turned my eyes off of the screen. That kept me awake long enough to finish and hand it in. I must have handed it in, because I aced the course...
Afterwards, somehow, I drove to the airport and got on a plane to Germany, visiting my folks over the holidays. I remember waking up in a bedroom in their house. I do not remember much if anything about packing, the drive to the airport, the flight, meeting them at the airport, the 4 hour drive to their place...
Ever since (it is now 14 years later), I can handle one all-nighter, but only if I get lots of rest the night after.
Be careful with lack of sleep. It can get you good. It is possibly one of the most insidious and worst afflictions gripping the US these days. It is a serious problem, I am not making that up.
But by all means have fun gaming - it is great!
