The funny thing is that it’s the little things that I dislike about the SEs. Changing Vader’s lines at the end of Empire, adding the “NOOOOO” at the the of Jedi, Luke no longer saying that R2 is lucky he doesn’t taste very good (I just have always LOVED this line ever since I was a little kid). I could live with the SEs if I could make my own cuts. Some of the changes I found quite welcome; the Falcon taking off at Mos Eisley, all the Cloud City CGI stuff, all the various planets at the end of Jedi and the subsequent new music.

I just finished the Volumes 4-6 this weekend and the only line of dialogue I really miss was that one.

Lucas himself approved the release of the theatrical versions in 2006 for the stand-alone DVDs of the original trilogy.

I don't believe we will never see them on blu-ray. I think Disney will do it, even as a bonus feature, the way Lucas did in '06.

As for the films becoming public domain, don't count on it. Disney has been at the forefront of making copyright last longer and longer. They will do it again.

Under the current system for movies, copyright can be renewed for up to 95 years after its creation. So even if Disney doesn't get further copyright extensions, the original film won't enter public domain until 2072.

Well, if they won't release the original versions legitimately, I'm happy with the fan-made releases that are readily available if you know where to look. Honestly, they look better than the UHD versions streaming on Disney+ anyway. Those have awful color timing and have been scrubbed of anything resembling film grain. I'd be more than happy to give Disney my money for well-done, legit releases, but if they don't want my money, that's fine with me.

I agree. I'd buy a properly done, fully restored official release of the OT in a heartbeat. But, I have what I need in the mean time that works well enough for me - and is so much better than the old laserdisc transfers put to non-anamorphic DVD.

So when will the box set be announced. The theatrical versions would be great but I’m. Ready to buy especially after seeing the films in 4K on Disney+!!!

    I’m ready to preorder it!!

Agreed. the original director on ST:TMP was a TV director who handed over the reins after the decision was made to turn Star Trek: Phase II into a feature. Wise's most significant input apart from directing the film was persuading Leonard Nimoy to come back.

Exactly. It's a cost situation. At the time ST:TMP was being readied for BD release, Paramount needed the cash injection a reissue would bring and wasn't willing/able to foot the expense to convert the new effects sequences to HD. Ergo, we get the theatrical cut on BD.

Well, that is the Canadian BB site, so take that into account. Second, that's also before any discounts. I don't typically do exclusives like this, but this set would boil down to $36ish per movie. What's the going rate for exclusive 4k films?

Nothing is available in Canada which is not available in the US and usually cheaper.

I am speaking of physical media. The new Monty Python boxed set for instance. A.com = $115. A.ca=over $300. That is why we maintain a US P.O. Box. Unless you are buying Canadian content discs, all are usually cheaper in the US. Sometimes they look cheaper here, but are imports from US and when postage is added the price can double.

Is there any way to update the title of this 6 year old thread, because the answer is "no."
