Did anyone check out this show on the History Channel on Sunday night? The first issue they tackled was the TWA800 downing back in July 1996 killing all 230 people on board. That's what really sparked my interest in watching the show since I am 100% positive that it was downed by a missle. The FBI/NTSB official findings were that a spark in the central fuel tank created the explosion and that the missle that around 200 eyewitnesses saw was the front end of the plane breaking off and the fuselage shooting around 4,000 feet straight up. Most experts will tell you that that is impossible.

Anyhoo, I wondered what everyones/anyones impressions were. To me, TWA800 is one of the greatest ignored tragedies our recent history and it was an act of terrorism. I've read a lot about over the past 6 years. I think the show is repeating Friday night at 11:00pm. I also look forward to seeing anything about the OK City bombing.

*Small sidenote, on 9/11 George Stephanopoulos was being interviewed on ABCNews. He was talking about times when the situation room was used in the White House. He said the Oklahoma City bombing, the TWA800 bombing... I about leapt out of my seat when I was watching that. That was the first time I had ever seen that acknowledged.

You should probably replace "positive" with "convinced". There hasn't been enough evidence to indicate for 100% certainy that it was a missle.

You should have seen instead the excellent PBS NOVA edition about FAA examinations of downed airliners and how the conclusion about the faulty wiring and spark was arrived at via the painstakingly patient and slow process of science.

The History Channel keeps lowering its already too-low standards.

If you are truly interested, I suggest you read twa800.com raylahr.com. and flight800.org. Independent investigations performed by William Donaldson, a former Naval crash investigator, and a group of retired aviation professionals who were either crash investigators or individuals inside the NTSB investigation, have concluded that a center wing tank explosion was not credible. If there was faulty wiring in these planes, then why didn't they ground every Boeing 747.

Plus, the NTSB's explanation about how explosive residue was found on rows 17-21 (which is also the location of the explosion) has been proven false.

Chris, I think it is a weekly series. It looks like there is some UFO crap (Area 51) so that doesn't help the program give credibility to the other shows about legitimate unexplained events out there.

D. Scott, I believe that there has been a preponderence of evidence to make me "positive" that the plane was taken down by a missle. Hundreds of eyewitnesses, Commander Donaldson's investigation, radar data, etc.

Here's one interesting account which many people reported as seeing on television:

"Long Island's Channel 55 cameraman James Hughes, said during an interview that he and another camera crew from one of the networks were at the airport when the C130 landed. The crew, he said, stated they saw a missile heading toward FL800 just before they witnessed the explosion. The C130 crew members were pulled away from the two camera crews by what Hughes said appeared to be their superiors and came back claiming they had seen nothing." The C-130 was piloted by Col. William Stratemeier.

Actually, isn't that the plot from a movie on the Sci-Fi Channel? Oh wait, that actually sounds more interesting than another giant snake movie!;)

Phil, I respectfully disagree. Look at the OK City bombing for example. What happened to John Doe #2 who was described by multiple eyewitnesses as being of middle eastern descent and seen w/ McVeigh on multiple occassions including when the Ryder truck was rented? What about former Air Force Brigadier General Benton Partin? He is an explosives expert whose report on the explosion stated that there is no way a truck bomb of that size could do that level of damage to the structure of the Murrah building unless there were secondary charges on the support columns inside. Why are these facts not coming to light?

I agree that many times that the internet is awful source and I tend to be skeptical of such information. I look at the recent Pentagon 9/11 flash animation that is circulating as an example. The evidence on the TWA sites is supported by respected individuals' expertise, hundreds of eyewitness accounts, and other collected data. There is simply too much to ignore, yet it is.

The title of the program does a poor job of giving credence to its subject matter, but I think TWA 800 is so far out of the news that any exposure to the circumspect conclusion of the NTSB is good.
