I have a 42" lcd Vizio tv with 2 hdmi inputs. Right now my cable box and PS3 are hooked up. I received a Samsung HT D5300 for Christmas. Right now the Samsung is hooked up using component cables. Id like to set it up so i can play my ps3, watch cable and watch movies with all the audio coming from the home theater system. This is my first home theater system and im not sure how to hook it up. I tried using AUDIO OUT cables from the tv to the AUX IN on the home theater but theres no sound. I know i could wire the ps3 and cable box to the home theater but theres only one HDMI port on it so that would mean id have to plug in/unplug when i want to switch from cable to ps3 and vice versa. Any help would be great. Thank you. Links: http://www.samsung.com/us/video/home-theater/HT-D5300/ZA http://www.vizio.com/lcd-hdtvs/e421vo.html

Ok guys so i got my cable and ps3 sound to come out of the home theater speakers. Turns out running the audio out to the aux in is the right thing to do. But im only getting sound from the front 2 speakers and the sub. No surround or center. Im not sure if thats due to the component cables? Would running an HDMI from the tv to home theater system make it surround for cable/ps3?

It's not surprising that you're only getting sound from the fronts and sub. Using analog outputs means a stereo audio signal, and most HT systems will play stereo through the mains and subwoofer only.

Using HDMI to the TV won't solve the problem, because just about all TVs downconvert any multichannel audio to stereo before output.

You probably need to review the manual for your Samsung system and set the surround mode for the Aux. input. There may be a "Dolby ProLogic" button or something similar on the remote. ProLogic decoding can be used for stereo sources to produce a simulated surround sound that, while not as good as true digital surround sound, will at least utilize all your speakers.

Sorry for the delay in responding, lots of folks have been offline this week. Hope you get this response. Good luck.
