Connect Passive Onkyo Sub Woofer to New Onkyo Receiver (1 Viewer)

Need some help and options in connecting my old passive Onkyo sub woofer which just has the black and red connection at the rear (model# SKW-391) to my new Onkyo receiver (model# TX-NR656) which provides connection only to an active (or powered) sub woofer. Thanks

You won’t be able to use the Onkyo sub without an outboard amplifier. If you have an old receiver laying around you could use it as the amp.

Yes i do have the old Onkyo old receiver (model # HT-R391 ). I did try but was un-successful. Could you assist how can this be done?

Connect the new receiver’s subwoofer output to an input on the old receiver (TV/CD, Game or CBL/SAT), let’s say the left input. Connect the subwoofer to the Front left speaker connections. Makes sure you have the input on the old receiver selected for the input you used.
