Just read at Link Removed today that it's official. Will happen on May 23rd at E3.
Good news for anyone 'fence-sitting'. :emoji_thumbsup:
The speculation is over, the estimates have been made and now its finally confirmed, Xbox will drop its price down from $299 to $199. Microsoft indicated to both retailers and analysts that the drop would take effect on May 23rd during the E3 convention.

Cool. In similar news, Sony have come out and said that they will NOT be dropping the PS2 price. Interesting.

Excellent news!
I guess I can't resist anymore. As of May 23rd, I will own an Xbox. :)
(Come on, Sony. I've been wanting a PS2. You know you want to do it!)

Anyone else bummed that they paid $299? I did, not even 2 months ago. Well, I guess it will all equal out if I can get a PS2 for $199 (you know they will now).

I already have an X Box but if Sony isn't going to participate in a price war then it looks like my #2 console will be a Cube :)

Somebody check ebay to see if XBOX bidding comes to a screeching halt. You'll probably see alot of highbidders back out as well.

Damn, now the UK model is expensive again! :D Actually since the drop to £199 here it's been selling a lot better. It's a wise move to drop the price, and I am glad to see them do it in the USA. I am finally getting my X-box next week for my birthday.

Seriously, there is NO excuse to not get one now. Even the MS haters should get one and feel good that they are costing Bill a nice chunk of change ;)

Great! I keep making my friend Bob drag his over so we can battle it out in Halo, but no more. This price drop makes my excuses for not getting one go out the window.

Not really. Ever since I purchased the 3DO at $550, everything else pales in comparison.

Get it for $189 instead of $199 ;) Just buy it now at any of those big stores with 110% price guarantee and after they change the price...go get your money! More time to enjoy the XBox at a lower price!
BTW, I just got mine pretty recently too...guess I'm out $100. Oh well...I think playing Halo was worth it.

You know how some places will refund some of the price back to you if you buy something right before it goes on sale or lowers in price? Why not buy it somewhere like that a week or so before the 23rd, then go back and get the money taken off after? This way, you get it a week earlier.

Well, you have to sort of admire MS for being so willing to lose money on their first console system. This isn't going to help the "Dreamcast 2" comparisons either.
Of course, the Dreamcast was the "best system ever", so it's OK with me. ;)

Ummm, I hate to break the news to everyone, but this is based of ANALYST speculation, nothing has been officially announced by Microsoft. So until MSFT issues a press release, I would categorize this as a "rumor" at best. We all know how trust worthy "analysts" can be.

Remember all those dot cons who never made any money that "analysts" told people to continue to buy stock from, well these are those same analysts. They will say anything if enough money is involved, even lie.

With the Electronic Entertainment Expo two weeks out, Microsoft let the proverbial cat out of the bag earlier this week, indicating to retailers and analysts that the company will soon slash the U.S. price of the Xbox console to $199.
This is from GameSpy. While I agree that we should not count our xchickens before they hatch, it seems that the rumor is accurate. Guess we don't have long to wait to be sure.

Cheers,

Keith
