The almost unbelievable story of the 1991 US Senate hearings to confirm Judge Clarence Thomas as a Supreme Court Justice. At the hearings, Thomas was accused of sexual harassment by a former colleague, Anita Hill, while he was her superior at the Equal Opportunity Employment Commission and the U.S. Department of Education.

For the most part, the film presents an evenhanded view of events, but much like another HBO program, 'The Jinx', by the end you know who the filmmakers are sympathizing with.

Kerry Washington portrays Ms. Hill and does a great job of letting us see the effect of the ordeal on a common individual who puts her future at risk to simply do the right thing. Wendell Pierce portrays Mr. Thomas, and almost makes you have pity for the still serving (self serving) Justice.

Exactly like the recent FX series, 'The People vs. OJ Simpson', Confirmation again reflects an accurate picture of a society divided against itself.

Well done and a good history lesson for those who weren't around at the time.

Both Hill and Thomas are presented sympathetically. Joe Biden, IMHO, comes across as someone who can be pushed around and doesn't stand up for what he believes. Most of those supporting Thomas come across as quite venal, willing to do anything to get him confirmed. Those opposed just sit there like bumps on a log and allow Hill to be smeared again and again without much protest.

I found it be be a good production both technically and artistically.

If anything, Wendell Pierce made Thomas much more sympathetic than the man could ever actually come across in reality.

And I still resent to this day how he also played the race card to shame a bunch of old white Senators into shutting down Hill's story completely, despite the fact that he has spent his entire career and time on the bench denying there is any such thing as racial bias. And in a situation that had nothing to do with race. Sorry, but this thoughtful and also beautifully-acted show opens that political can (sans pubic hair) to be commented on.
