Recently, I have cut my DVD watching to "chapter hopping," putting in up to 6 discs in a row and watching my favorite chapters rather than watching the entire movie. Oh sure, I'll watch a new movie all the way through, such as BLADE 2 last night, but my old ones have been reduced to the hunt and pick method, looking for the best sound and picture. Here's a sample:

"Dogs" -IN THE FLESH Roger Waters Live
"Pod Racing" & "Duel of the Fates" - The Phantom Menace
"Pre credit sequence" -Superbits Bram Stoker's Dracula
"You're gonna need a bigger boat" - JAWS

Anyone else fallen victim to "chapter hopping," and what are your favorite chapters? Maybe you'll remind me of a chapter I've forgotten, as with over 300 DVDs that is getting easier by the day.

I have to admit, I sometimes go on a chapter safari, but a large majority of my watching is movies straight through.

I used to do it more, but it made movie watching entire movies so much less fulfilling. For some reason, it made it harder to view the movies as a whole.

Great Chapter Safari stops (Sorry if the names are off):

A.I. - Flesh Fair
Chicken Run - The Pie Machine
Fast and the Furious - Opening, Street Race, Hijacking the Truck, Motorcycle Chase
The Fugitive - Train Wreck, Sewer Chase, House Under Siege
Gladiator - Unleash Hell, Battle of Carthage
Heat - Bank Robbery
Independence Day - Times Up
The Mask of Zorro - Barracks Battle, Stealing the Map
The Matrix - Lobby Shoot Out, Subway Fight
The Princess Bride - Chatty Duelist, Battle of Wits
The Prince Of Egypt - Chariot Race, Ten Plagues, Parting of the Red Sea
Pulp Fiction - Ezekial 25:17, Adrenaline Shot, Captians Koon's Story, Epilogue
Ronin - Chase in Nice
Shrek - The Dragon's Castle
Star Wars: Episode 1 - Pod Race, Battle of the Fates
Terminator 2 - Future War, Canal Chase
U-571 - Depth Charges
Willow - The Tavern and Escape, Sledding on the Shield
X-Men - Statue of Liberty Battle

My favorite bits of VERTIGO:
Opening titles / rooftop chase
Stalking Madeliene
Scotty's nightmare
The Kiss
When I first got MOULIN ROUGE I would come home from work and watch "The Moulin Rouge / Do the Can Can Can" every day for a couple weeks. :D

Oh yeah, I love the whole first section of MOULIN ROUGE and usually shut it off after "Diamonds."

I do it. My favorite disc (of a movie) to do it with is Kentucky Fried Movie - that type of movie was made for DVD. A close second is South Park: BLU watch just the songs, classic stuff. I also like doing it with UHF to see some of the TV/movie parodies without actually watching the whole movie. The Naked Gun is another of my favorites to do it with. I can't tell you how many times I've watched just the 3rd act, and OJ's first appearance in the film (with the commentary - funny comments made about it).
And of course I always do it with my music video collection DVDs. Now I think I'm gonna go watch the songs on SP:BLU - this thread got me in the mood. :)

I like skipping around specifically for sound demos/tests for my friends. Some of my (lesser known) favorites: (chapters depend on what disc/edition you own)
Terminator 2: Ch.16/18 "The Galleria." when John Connor first meets the two Terminators. Starts out with some bad arcade game sounds, but Arnold's first shotgun shot will test ANY subwoofer.
Fifth Element: Ch.8(superbit) "Leeloo on the Ledge." Right when she jumps off the ledge, the pursuing police car pushes your surrounds to the limits
Jurassic Park: Ch.11 "T-Rex." Front three spks get a good workout from the Rex, with the surrounds providing great ambience with the rain.
Se7en: Ch.22 "John Doe." Many examples throughout the disc, but great DISCRETE surround effects for this chase scene.
U-571: Ch.15 "Depth Charge." Subwoofer goes crazy, tries to keep up.
Some more choices: opening scenes of Saving Private Ryan and Toy Story 2, Matrix rooftop "bullet-time" sequence, Fight Club and Cast Away plane crashes, and the LOTR Moria/Balrog chase scene.
Oh and I always use the THX trailer from T2 to start things off:D

Guilty! :D
Mostly I go chapter-hopping with commentary tracks turned on, to hear what the director had to say about my favorite scenes. Some examples:
Apollo 13: liftoff sequence and entering the atmosphere/splashdown sequence
Toy Story: the alien crane game, toys attack Sid, final moving-van chase
Alien: Alien comes out of John Hurt's chest (hear Ridley Scott say, "Here it comes.")

I had the skip-back-turn-on-commentary problem a LOT during my first viewing of the Simpsons.

Everytime something pops up for the first time (like Nelson going Ha Ha!, or the first appearance of a regular character or situation), I can't stop myself. Have to hear the commentary-people confirming my "discovery".
