In a nutshell: College student who managed to save up some cash. Old roomate moved out and took his DVD player with him, so while looking for a new DVD player I figured I'll just get one with a HT system.

I've been looking at the Sony DAV-FR9 and the Gateway KAS-303's.

Does anyone have an opinion on these two? I've heard the Sony's sound good, and the Gateway looks like a good deal but I've heard relativly little from people who actually own them.

Any opinions? Any other systems for around $1000 that you woule reccomend?

Any help will be great. Thanks!

Hi there, Bill. Welcome to Home Theater Forum. Please note the following message posted permanently atop the main thread-listing page in the Basics area:

That's because the Basics area is for general discussion at the beginner level.

For lack of a better option, we ask that people post requests for help on assembling an entire system here in the A/V Sources area.

    Thank you and good luck.

Bill, since you're going down the HTiB route, see if you can get a listen to the Onkyo (model 600 or something)

Alright, sorry about that and thanks for moving it over.

Thanks FeislaK, I'll try to locate one.
