I was watching ABC HD last night through insight cable and motorola dual tunner box. The commercial volume is about 10-15 dbs louder then the show is.

This is annoying. Are there any fixes?

The mute button on your remote...sadly.

I vaguely recall that Mitsubishi (maybe) marketed some TVs with a feature to address this issue. It would try to normalize the volume. Not sure how well it worked, or if they still make 'em.

The thing I've noticed is that this is an issue when the audio is connected via analog...if you use an HDMI cable and set the audio to Digital, the audio is MUCH MUCH more level.

The biggest offender is any program in 5.1. The 5.1 is very soft over analog and when you hit the 2.0 commercials, the volume difference is CRAZY! I assume it has to do with the digital -> analog conversion, 'casue like I said, when going through a digital HDMI cable, the audio difference is less jarring.

The USA Network is a particularly bad offender for this.

I thought that this practice is against the FCC rules on the over-the air channels. (the volume increase, not the mute button.. although that is coming)

I think the FCC has sufficiently deregulated that the only thing they concern themselves with now is sex and potty language.

The fast forward button works well, too. [IMG]
