Dear Mr. Delan,
As September 16, 2002 is drawing closer, we here at Comcast are really excited about launching this new service. We are looking for friendly testers. Testers must have an HDTV to be part of the test. Please have them email me their name, home address, phone number as soon as possible. We would like to begin testing as soon as next week.
Sincerely,
Veronica Santos

Does Comcast have a map of the areas it services/will service with HDTV?
I'm relocating back to the NoVA area soon, and although I won't say HDTV will affect a home decision, let's just say I moved to Old Town Alexandria in 1997 because they were one of (if not THE) only area to provide high-speed internet at the time.. :D

Unfortunatly, Cox has most of Fairfax County, and they've been taking their time just rolling out digital cable, much less HDTV content. I still don't have it here. At least I can get cable broadband at a reasonable price.

Be sure to tell us how it compares to satellite, if it's even close anyway. ;)

Hi Guys. I have Cox here in Fairfax. Had their digital cable since Feb and I've really liked it. Every bit as good as satellite. The premium channels look very good on my 32" sony. The Encore channels do show some heavy compression at times but HBO is always crystal clear. They do plan on rolling out an HD service but we probably won't see that until sometime 2003 when they finish upgrading the county.

I emailed Comcast, and received a reply from Ms. Santos, saying that she would contact me with more information.

I have been disappointed with the quality of the Comcast signal, though.

Two of the local stations - NBC 4 and Fox 5 - look awful on cable - worse than I can get with an antenna.

The premium stations also look bad - the levels are all wrong, so everything appears too dark, and without a lot of contrast. Also, I often notice pixelation. This is in contrast to Time Warner digital in Houston and Austin which had excellent pictures.

I'll keep people posted on how the HDTV testing thingy goes.

I get my Box tomorrow night, I am psyched for this...And yes, right now the cable signal does suck, But I think alot of it is due to the cable box...The old SA Explorer is not a very good box from what I have seen. I dont remember what the date on the Firmware is but I am pretty sure it'snot up to date...The Regular cable signal is better than what the box throws out, though the Digital Stations look good, I think they can be better...

I also have Cox digital and my experience is the same. As good as my old DSS. I was talking to one of their service guys and got the impression that HDTV for areas that have digital isn't that far away.

I moved to the Ballston area this summer and have been waiting for Comcast to roll out their high def service forever. Do you know if the initial roll out includes Arlington?
