SDDS is not DSD. SDDS stands for 'Sony Dynamic Digital Sound'. It is a derivative of the Sony Minidisc compression scheme if I remember correctly.

Sony needs to move toward multi-channel DSD (SACD) on Blu-Ray. I got to hear some multi-channel SACD a while back up at Widescreen Review, and it was really a step up.

Of course, Sony needs to adopt a more efficient video codec first. Also, try and work around the protective covers on the discs.

If they do those things they might actually win a format war for once.

SDDS also wouldn't be practical because the extra channels are in the front. You'd need Left, Left Center, Center, Right Center, Right speakers plus the surround set up.

The extra left/right speakers are intended as effects channels
